    Hi!

So nice of you to lend money to someone to help them out of a situation....make sure you get it back though!

Sounds like London's coming together good for you! :T
  • Beanie, I don't mind, I will do what I can, hopefully someday someone may do the same for me :D The dog is about 10-20lb but his is a pain and will pull, this is what has broken the current one and you need to keep clipping it back together while on a walk. So really I will need to buy one for a heavier dog so it lasts, I am watching a few on ebay and hopefully I may get one a a reduced price :T

Sparkle, thanks, I don't mind and I have done it before and prob will do again. I shall get it back, but it will be in drips and drabs reather than the whole amount. London is going really well I am trying to win London zoo tickets on ebay but I miss the actions because of my shifts, I will get there though :T

Have a great evening all
  • Opinions please wise ones :D

So right now I have two avenues of credit available to me £300 on a mastercard (3%ish) and £750 on an argos card (always 0%). Now Argos has some sat on it, but it wasn't mine and was being repayed but said person now has no job  Which is a seperate issue!

But I want to close both accounts because I find myself slipping into old pap habits, and lending the mastercard out. If I do this will it effect my credit record? As I may in the near future (5-10yrs) want to look into mortgages :o Also should I leave it until after London just incase?

It also means no card to use with online shopping/while out and about so I was thinking of a pre-paid credit card. None has taken my fancy as the fees were too high etc but a new one has been released which could give me free phone credit and the fees are basically just the £5 admin/start up.

    Any opinions welcome :D

Right my thoughts are~ Keep one~maybe Argos as it has 0%.
BUt the only person to know that you have it is YOU.
It is for you & not to be lent out to anyone.
It is helpful for you toi have it for online bits n bobs & for any emmergencies YOU may have.
Bit of a bumble bee about the money owing on card by person who now has no job.
I hope its not too much.

Fees are too high on prepaid cards.
Closing one card would have no impact on your ability to get a mortgage in the future.
You really need to keep one open to show you can use dredit in a responsible way IYSWIM?

  • Ummm never thought of it like that Beanie, plus as its store specific its not like I could go and shop anywhere with it :D Its only 0% because I take advantage of the 0% deals.

This prepaid isn't too bad, free to top up, free to use (except cash withdrawal) and no annual fee. But maybe it will be false economy as it won't exactly give me any interest and thus I will feel the need to spend whats on there :o

Its near limit (whats owed) but it isn't needed till May and September so a while yet. Its my own fault for lending it out but whats done is done. I will get it repayed and fingers crossed when they pay it back its more for savings :T

Thats what I thought with the credit record. As its 0% it shows as 'payed' everymonth so its a good little card really. The mortgage thing won't be for ages yet as I need a deposit and a better job really but as long as I am on the right path :D

Thanks for all your help Beanie :A

I don't think pre-paid cards show or affect your credit rating - because can't you get them even if you have really bad credit?

Thanks Gem, I didn't want it to show on my credit rating more so I can use it to spend online. Since a 'scare' through an online shopping site I will now only use paypal/credit card. If I get rid of the CC I will have no way of paying online for goods that don't accept PP. However its prob not a valid reason, the free phone credit attracts me but working it out I will have to spend nearly £500 to get £5 :rotfl:

But then if you want to look at mortgages in the future, then active well-used credit will always help. If you trust yourself with the Barclaycard then keep it but tell anyone that you might be tempted to lend money to that it's gone.
