    Hi Gryfon

My last tesco shop was 165, but that includes nappies and all the main items I need for the month. I do a meal planner for the month then go trhough the cupboards checking I have all the ingredients I need. I buy meat and veg locally (although some of the meat I needed was included in the tesco order).

My budget is 350 for me, dh and 2 dds (aged 2 & 3). This covers everything, cleaning stuff toiletries. DD lunch club. As I dont drive I find it easier to get everything in one go as it saves on the delivery costs.

Everyone does things differently and I guess its just trying different methods until you find the way that works for yoy. Good luck!!

hi all was advised to come and post this here for advice to see if i could cut corners even furtheri really want to learn about moneysaving and o/s as hubby starts new job just before xmas so we're coming off benifits and threads like this and xmas thread are proving invaluable.

i already cook from scratch, batch cook, use bm and slowcooker, but never shop with a list.my shop for a week for 6 people,2 dogs,2 aviaries,2 rats, all cleaning stuff, and gas/electric [prepaymentmeter] is £100

we have 2 freezers that are stocked all the time and already look for reduced/bogof. we live in a small town and have to use a car each now as hubby job 30 miles away so that will add an extra £30 per week to our bills and only have a farmfoods, aldi, tesco, waitrose and really small somerfield within 20 miles of us. already use butcher as cheaper/better meat than tescos . i quilt and sew and make loads of own gifts and buy from charity shops/use freecycle.
i still havent put heating on. but have to use a tumbledrier as have no outside space and with 6 in house to much washing to have everywhere

my kids are 17 [disabled]14 14 and 11 all boys my eldest works parttime in farmfoods as well as doing AS so we get 15%staff discount. dont buy value stuff, false economy, but do buy own brands.

any tips welcome to reduce, especially just before xmas and we are going from weekly benefit to monthly wage. have appointment on 13/11 with jobcentre to discuss tax credits etc and will be shopping thursday this week

I'd like to join in please. Last month was a disaster - coming in just under 400 quid after a fairly successful previous month of 310. I'd like to get back down to around the 300 mark please!

Only problem is - it's dd1's b'day and she's having a party on saturday so that's the budget a bit messed up right from the start. I think the first Tescos shop will come in at around 70 quid, but that includes party stuff and some stuff for the hampers. Will just have to work hard the next 3 weeks to reduce it.

    Cheers!
Debts @ lightbulb moment (13/06/2006) - £59,842.23  All commercial debts now clear!!! :T Debts April - £20,000 to family (incl extra £10k borrowed for house deposit). DFD - Aug 2014
Proud to be dealing with my debts
    Goal of the month - £500 on groceries for family of 5 - Apr 2011 - £620! :( May - £454.85 so far.
  • 3rd time lucky? Maybe -
For September and October I guessed and hoped to spend no more than £200 but went over £250 (£263.36 September, ££251.45 October), so I'm being more realistic and set target at £250

feeling good about this month so far. Did a big shop at Asda and spent about £80 and that was including £15 of nappies which should last the month. Also had a couple of family members stayig over the weekend who needed fed as well. So I am pleased so far.

  • Hi All,

I am going to join in this month, I have been popping to the shop for a pt of milk and coming out €40 lighter! No meal planning and generally not doing all the things that help to reduce the spending.

So i have just totaled my October receipts for food shopping and it shamefully comes to €368.42. This is only for me, and DD 4 & DS18mths!!!!
No wonder i really need to lose a few lbs!

So this months target is €300 (about £200). We also have some special dietary requirements. I would like to get it down to €250 but this is to cover one guest for a week and another for a weekend. I am sure there will be alcohol in there somewhere. I have just been given a freezer so will meal plan for the month and then do a big shop with little top ups for fresh stuff if necessary.

Best of luck to everyone.
