I think I'm going to try this this month... we normal spend about £160 for two of us (and probably more after that!) So my budget for this month is £120 because were on holiday for a week and work from there... does that sound alright? I just got given a breadmaker so i'm sure I'll make lots of savings there!0

Hi everyone,
I would like to try to join this challenge for the first time. My theoretical grocery budget is £250 for the month (two adults, one child, one cat, one kitten, one guinea pig), but I've been coming in over that and would like to get down to that.
My spends include food, alcohol, pet food, cat litter, pig bedding, expensive ground coffee for DH :-( and toiletries.
I will be doing a month's food plan tomorrow and will post this here when I've done it. My first shop will include all non-perishables for the month, then I'll just top up with fresh stuff.
Gulp.
Here goes.

After a bit of a disaster last month I'm in again but this time with a slightly increased budget of £50 per week, making a total of £250 as I'm counting November as a 5 week month. Hoping to include some bits to be stashed away for Christmas in this. Still need to buy ingredients for our Christmas cake as it's not been made yet due to us all coming down with a nasty tummy bug.
In view of the extra Christmassy bits I'm after from this month's shopping, I think I will also join this month's Store Cupboard challenge and have already made an inventory of what's lurking in the freezer and will get at least this weeks menu plan done to keep on track.
Good luck everybody!0 -
Okay, well this is a first time for me, so with 2 adults, 3 kids a dog & a cat, I am going to aim for £100 a week max. My month runs from 28th-28th, so I have done one shop already.
Hubby gives me £100 a week (I can have more if I need it) and £50 a month for petrol. My 'housekeeping money' will include everything needed for our packed lunches every day for work & school. Previously I've easily spent £120-£150 a week. Now I'm planning all my meals for the week ahead and shopping accordingly.:jDebt-Free Wannabe by December 2008 :jJan 2008 Grocery Challenge [strike]£400[/strike] £297.40Feb 2008 Grocery Challenge [strike]£320[/strike]£2008 for 2008 Member Number 411 _party_£50 won0 -
Ok, just done Novembers 1st shop.
In order to take advantage of e-vouchers we did the shop online and split it in half so dh could get £5 off and I could get 500 points on a £50 spend each. We took advantage of lots of BOGOFs as well and that doesn't get taken off the total at the checkout so won't have a definite figure untill then but total below is minus dh £5 off, basically free delivery. This should last at least 2 weeks as I have done a monthly menu plan. I'll need to top up on fresh stuff later.
Our budget includes everything, all our food, breakfast, lunches, dinners, snacks and puddings, dog food and all toiletries and sundries for 2 adults, 1 dd 8yrs, 1 ds 5yrs and a dog.
Total Budget for November £375

Did a HUGE shop today...HB, Aldi and Asda. I did pick up some great bargains and the kitchen is full of stuff. The only problem is that it is another 5 week month...argh!
The plan is to only buy fruit/veg/bread each week as I've got tons of food to last the month, so that leaves me around £25 each week.
I'm still spending far less than I used to though and this is to feed me, DH, DD1 and DD20 -
I'd like to join in as well! Just checked My Money and with the card we spent around £200 last month on food, but that doesn't include anything with cash!
So I'd like to make it £200 altogether, which means spending on the card and with cash.
This will only be on food for the family as it's me (pregnant), husband and two children who seem to find any treats and devour them!!!
I was wondering whether it was a good idea to withdraw £50 a week from the bank and just use that and nothing else?Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!

Hi Gryfon
I tend to do one big tesco shop a month and then draw the rest out in cash. Find it easier that way.0 -

Sounds like a good plan. Do you have an amount you spend on your big shop? I suppose I really need to sit down and do a food plan for the month...eeeeeek :eek:Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!
