Can someone point me to info on how long after drinking your blood alcohol level will be affected. What worries me is if I have a drink at home on Monday night, and then set off on the 15 mile drive to the train station at 6.30AM on Tuesday morning - Am I still over the legal limit? Is there a rule of thumb for how many units of alcohol the average man will burn off in an hour?
To be honest - The older I get, the worse I get as regards driving and then feeling tired while driving. I now try and use the trains for long journeys because I'm frightened I'll drift off behind the wheel. So its not just drink drivers that are a risk out there, it's weary tired drivers too.0 -
I understand that the usual yardstick is that it takes one hour per unit after you stop drinking for your body to get rid of alcohol.
However, this is a generalisation and it will depend on things such as body weight, fat to muscle, how often you consume alcohol, whether you have eaten etc. etc.
If you had a single drink at home before 10.00 p.m. in normal circumstances it should be well out of your system by 6.30 a.m. the following morning. However if you had been on a bender the night before the evening you have a single drink, that might not be the case as the single drink might have acted as a top up.
Safest thing is if you have to drive, don't drink anything alcoholic.
Edit: The other thing is that drinks poured at home generally have more units than those bought on licensed premises because you generally pour larger measures. Also cans of strong lager often contain in excess of 3 units, so a couple of cans of beer might be over 6 units. If you drank two cans of stong lager, finishing a midnight, you could well be over the limit the following day.0 -
I think a lot of people could be drinking over the limit the day after, because we all tend to think in terms of day to day rather than "x" hours from now when it comes to thinking about overnight.0

Some of your previous comments have been ridiculous due to their generalisations.
You clearly don't understand factors involving alcohol being eliminated for someone's system.
And no after last nights Christmas Party I'm drinking nothing tonight. I won't actually drink until Wednesday but then I expect that pint to be out of my system by Friday. Then I won't drink any alcohol after Wednesday until Boxing Day due to having to drive.
Maybe thats why you are so defensive of the OP........your life seems to revolve around when you are having your next drink !The loopy one has gone :j0 -

Around this time of year the police actually catch a lot of people drink driving in the morning. This is because they are over the limit from the night before.
There are a few cases also of people being caught later in the day again from the night before.
That's why I made the previous comments - there are other factors involved. Clearly you are an idiot if you drink then immediately jump into your car and drive, but lots of people who are caught don't.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

This thread is about drink driving so you will get comments stating people's drinking habits.
To be honest I'm actually thinking about Xmas presents for people........oh and none of them are alcoholic.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

NO ALCOHOL WHEN DRIVING - that's what it should be.
No alcohol whatsoever then there is no confusion of whether you'd be ok or not. Everyone has a different metabolism and can consume different quantities of alcohol before they may be over the limit.
I have attended and dealt with hundreds of drink drivers, most saying. 'I thought I'd be OK', well, having no alcohol ensures you are ok.
It's not the driver under the influence that I worry about, it the possibility of killing innocent people because they were stupid enough to drink.
I NEVER drive even after 1 drink and this should be the law.
Nuff said, rant over.Life is a rollercoaster.....ya just gotta ride it:whistle:0 -

That is good to know.. Not drinking means there will be no more road traffic accidents.

I detest drink drivers.. absolute scum of the earth. They put everyones life at risk without a care in the world.
The OP deserves all they get, and I bloody hope it's a lengthy prison sentence with a nutcase of a cell mate.
A dear friend of mine was killed by a drink driver and there is absolutely no excuse for going behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.
Quite right.
And if they are found to be under the limit they will walk away with no blemish on their record which is what you wish is it not?0
