Which is exactly why i stated that people should not get behind the wheel of a car when they have had any amount of alcohol !

Tell me , if a close member of your immedaite family was killed or maimed by a driver who was breathalised and found to be over the driving limit , would you still hold such a ridiculous point of view ? Would you forgive them because they were only slightly over the breathaliser limit ?

    Thought not !

My point is until the driver's blood test comes back as over the limit then they've done nothing illegal so there is nothing to punish them for.

My point of view isn't ridiculous ... if someone causes a car crash when they were only slightly over the limit then its possible the crash would have been jas severe and still caused the death or maiming of my family member even if the driver had been completely sober. As I pointed out before lapses of judgment happen when completely sober so its impossible to know for sure if the accident would have occurred and what the impact of the accident would have been in a different situation. Braking or steering a couple of seconds earlier doesn't always make a difference to the final outcome.

Whether I would forgave the driver that caused the crash would have a lot more to do with their behaviour and attitude before the accident occurred, e.g. were they driving above the speed limit on the wrong side of the road in poor weather conditions or was the driver otherwise driving reasonably and considerately.

As another poster has pointed out - write to your MP if you don't like it but don't tell me what I would or wouldn't think in a given situation.

I personally don't back a complete tee-total approach to driving and I'm in favour of sensible blood alcohol limits at or around the levels currently stated in English law. Tiredness and emotional state also affect peoples reaction times and judgment so unless we're going to start prosecuting people for driving on insufficient sleep and pulling people over and awarding penalty points if they are found driving after arguments with their partners/families/bosses etc then I'm happy that the law is fair the way it is currently - the currently allowed blood alcohol level is low enough as it is.

And it has not been proven that the OP was over the limit. Punishing people when they haven't committed a crime is wrong.

Why the heck would you need to be a mind reader when my post is very very clear ?

No amount of alcohol should be consumed if you are planning to drive !

I'm planning on driving on Friday so I shouldn't drink alcohol between now and then?

I also should ensure I don't get addicted to mouthwash between then unless I can find the solicitor I know my ABC and my CMYK mentioned in their post
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

I started driving in the late 1970s. At that time it was generally agreed that most people drove better after a few pints.
    Happy days.

Some people lack a bit of sense though.

Me and hubby went out Thursday night and he was driving. He had 1 pint of shandy with his meal (at 7pm) and drank coke for the rest of the night. We got home around midnight.

I used to have this argument with people, who would say that you are allowed X units before you are classed as over the limit and took that as gospel.

But what if you drank on an empty stomach?

What if you were really skinny or really short?

Alcohol affects different people in different ways, so it's just best to have nothing if you know you're going to get behind the wheel.

I have no sympathy with the OP at all, troll or not.

You don't see the contradiction in saying "have nothing" and "he had 1 pint of shandy" (i.e half a pint of beer)?

So, those that are condeming the OP, what should people do in this scenario:- You have 2 pints of 3.5% beer, should you drive?
