Pothole has more than just damaged my car

Why are you involving your own insurance in this? Either deal with the council yourself or via a no win no fee solicitor. Only your own insurance have the right to write your car off.0

Who's fault is it?
Who made you drive your car into a hole you knew was there?
If I worked for a council I'd copy every pothole damage claim to the Police, I'm sure there'll be a few driving without due car and attention cases amongst the claims (especially if they could be dealt with by means of a FPN)
But then again I can be a right bar steward at times."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -
That pothole is the best route around here considering other roads are worse (yes I've reported those as well).
The £150 is what the council insurers will pay out if I am successful.
My car had already had suspension replaced in August due to 'wear and tear', those parts have failed already, if they were poor quality they most likely would have failed long ago anyway.
Thanks for the arguments, that's going to help me counter them with the organisations and people who matter in this case.0 -

Try telling that to the councils insurers, they want the car if (big if, 1 in 10 or there abouts) I win.0 -

Oooh you're evil, I like you. However, I was fully aware, and the only way to ensure you avoid damage is not drive above 5mph, then you risk getting pulled for something that I can't remember but there's a few newspaper reports of drivers deliberately driving slow and getting fined for it!0 -

Only when you visit the red light areas.
You said you wouldn't do that again.0 -
I like you too! Nah, one I particularly remember is an old guy driving at idle speed in first gear past a place where a best mate died in a road accident and he was protesting about speed, cops pulled him over and booked him.0

Local council by me won't pay out if you didn't report the pothole to them before hitting it.
Wouldn't surprise me if you did then hit it and damage your car they'd turn around and blame you for hitting a hole you already knew about.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
