I use Pay & Go myself. Find it pretty handy. The trick is to keep topping it up every month, even over the summer when your not using it. And with a spare bit of cash here & there fire it on the card. It fairly builds up & makes the winter months easier.0

Six of one and half a dozen of the other I'd say. When they're talking about averaging over the year, they mean that your usage in winter is probably over a hundred quid so this averages out with your twenty or whatever in summer so that it's overall 70 a month. You do get a 5% discount though for paying by DD0

I currently have a PAYG meter but am moving house next Friday (hopefully!) and they have a regular credit meter. Do Phoenix charge anything for swapping the meters over? Having a PAYG meter means I know where I am and there is never the nasty shock of a big bill coming in. I also think that you are more economical with the gas.0

Hi we also have a pay as you go meter with Phoenix Gas, and we find it great and we top it up everyweek, and as the weather has been so lovely we have only had it on for the hot water. We also find if you use a PAYG meter then you are more economical with it too. We have an electric cooker so we only use the gas for heating and hot water.Do a little kindness every day.;)0

I highly recommend PAYG. When we were on the DD scheme we always seemed to owe a fortune when the annual bill came in regardless of how much we were paying each month. With PAYG there is no need to worry about bills. The only thing I find is a pain is the preset limits for topups in shops. You can only top up £20 at a time so if you go in looking for £100 worth then it goes through in 5 transactions.0

Are you on the old type card or the newer smart card with the chip? I'm using the smart card and I can add up to £49 at one top up.
If you have a bit of spare cash now, it would be a good idea to top up before the latest price rise is applied, unless I'm too late already?Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0 -
:hello:
I hope someone can advise me as I am really stressed about this bill! We received a bill from Phoenix Gas a couple of weeks ago for £1057.10, and am only dealing with it now as we have been very ill with the flu.
For the past various amounts, ranging from £90 to £134 and I really cant understand why we owe so much.... :embarasse
It states on the bill that we have used 188842 m dated 11/12/08 but last year we used 14602 m.
I have tried to contact Phoenix but cant get through. Do you think they will speak to me even thought my DH's name is on bill?
Many thanks
