They are asking you to pay for the replacement???? Shouldn't they be replacing it at their own cost?

I've also had a letter from phoenix this week for the same thing, said they'll be out on a Wednesday to make the change, I rang up to explain that no-one will be home during the day but as our meter is outside then it doesn't matter as they don't need access.

What are you getting reimbursed for though?
  • The credit that is on my meter is 85.00 quid. The letter says that the fitter will not be able to put that 85.00 onto my new meter and I will have to wait 28 days for reimbursement via a cheque. No gerfus I'm not paying for the meter. I'm annoyed at the length of time to reimburse me as I'm not working at the moment and waiting for Carer's Allowance to be sorted out. This was money I had 'stockpiled' onto my meter to help me through the next few weeks. I would check your letter miss maid as mine said "there will be a delay in restoring the gas supply until you contact us to let us know you ar at home.' Things weren't helped by the young lad on the phone who asked if i could possibly use it up in the next week or two!!

Oh right, I get you now! You would think that they could just credit your new meter with whats on your current one! Is there a complaints line you could contact?

Thanks for the heads up, as I was planning on topping up this week but wont bother now.
  • Did try to complain but had a hard enough job just trying to explain the situation!!! I'll take a reading when the fitter comes and makes sure he verifies it!! You couldn't be up to these energy companies!!

A neighbour told us how you can save up to £750 by getting Phoenix installed from mains to the house by the middle of September. As far as I know you don't have to actually connect to Phoenix at the time and given the costs involved in replacing the boiler etc I'm hoping there may be a money saving way of completing the switch.

The neighbour I spoke too didn't give me too much info but what she did say was she got a boiler, keypad thingy and carbon monoxide detector I think all for under £500 off eBay.

Is there any kind of boiler scrappage scheme or somewhere we can look apart from eBay to get prices? Also, I take it you have to get everything done by a Corgi (or whatever the new name is) approved fitter so if we don't go with Phoenix themselves who do we have to prove to that the work done was legit?
  • Just a wee tip for anyone that has lost their PAYG gas card.... when reporting the lost card DO NOT admit that IT'S LOST!!! They will charge £6.50 for a new one. I told them mine was faulty when they tried to charge me and they dropped the charge!!!

    Hope this helps :j
