    Does anyone else feel that we've just been through ten years of unprecedented economic stability and it's now over? Shore up the finances, people, we're in for a rough ride.

    If it makes you gas customers feel any better, I had a look at the average home heating oil price for the last 6 months at;
    http://www.boilerjuice.com/priceHistory.php
    I was shocked to see it had risen from about 37p per litre to 55p a litre (more like a 50% rise). I have oil but was thinking of moving to gas - not sure what to do!

    mtoner - that is a brilliant site you've got there.
    There is definitely a difference in price between gas and oil useage.
    I would convert from oil tomorrow if it wasnt for the £2000 installation charge they have quoted me. Need more of an incentive than that. Shame because I have had gas when I lived in england and it is a lot quicker to heat up than oil. Still would be a definite selling point if we ever moved to a house that already had been piped for gas.

    You do realise it's global price rises, not the government making these huge increases don't you?

    You just have to learn to accept that the poor are now becoming richer and so have greater energy demands, so now you have to pay more for gas/elec etc if you want it else they will buy it instead.

    Obviously companies will still make huge profits on top of these rises, but they are hardly going to cut costs so it doesn't hurt your pockets.

    But overall, their is little you can do but stamp you feet. Demand is high and supplies are far lower than required at the speed at which it is needed. It's only going to get worse as the years go by.

    Sorry about that.

    We now will have to pay £95 per month - an increase of £20 per month!!

    All these price increases - Groceries, Rates. Fuel etc. it's just great isn't it?! :rolleyes: :eek: :eek: :eek:

    Wonder what it will be in say 2 years time? Doesn't bear thinking about does it!! :mad: :rolleyes:

    Has anyone switched from Direct Debit to the top up card scheme? I'm thinking of switching and looking your thoughts on this.

    My direct debits are up to over £70 a month now and when I rang customer service they won't reduce it saying that it's based on a whole year's usage. I don't understand it though even with the increases last month. Now the weather has improved, the heating is off, unless it's rubbish weather outside then maybe on for just half an hour late at night.

    What are the benefits of doing this? I figure I'd see a reduction during the summer but would I be constantly topping up in the winter? Are there any differences in the price per unit used?

    I had a look at their website;

    http://www.phoenix-natural-gas.co.uk/supply/paying-for-your-gas/our-tariffs/

    there is a price difference, but which is cheaper seems to depend on how much you use. If I were you I would stick to what your doing, could you imagine how much you might have to stump up on pay as you go over a cold spell in winter! Probably better to balance out the payments over the year.
