Don't get too excited, come January and the prices go up so will the bills again.0

I had to laugh at this.My cul-de-sac in Donaghadee has just had the mains gas pipes installed, dropping the normaly quite wide road to single lane with the excavations. (even worse with the brat run as parents clog the place up dropping the rug rats off to school every weekday! but that's neither here nor there)
Anyway, this morning I got a letter from Pheonix advising me of up-coming work to install said gas pipes over the next few weeks & apologising for the inconvienience, letter dated 25/11/09)
Work which started a month back & was completed last week!
Now I know what our large energy bills go on.....Sending out letters after the fact!0 -
Phoenix Gas is coming to Comber area, anyone any thoughts on whether it is worth getting ( expensive to run/install )?0

Hi there,
Well I know in my case, I live in an apartment and rarely need to put the heating on due to it being so powerful. I'm a fan of phoenix gas in the 3 years or so I've been using it and as long as you put it on only when you need it, I would say it's cost effective! It's probably cut my bill in half since i switched from oil.0 -
Well worth it, very convenient, clean and handy, though there's a fair outlay in installing it.Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

if you have to pay for it to be piped to your house - no, far too expensive for the initial outlay.
however if anyone is moving to a house where it is already piped in well then yes it is worth it.
couldnt believe just how expensive it was until we got the quote to switch from oil to gas. A definite no-no for us until they bring the full installation/connection prices down.0 -
We've had it for 9 or 10 years now. This house had OFCH when we bought it but we switched to Phoenix immediately as we liked it so much in our old house.
Our DD for gas is around £30 per month and that heats a 3 bed semi, plus runs a gas hob and a gas tumble drier.0 -
don't forget though you're at the mercy of the prices set by Phoenix - in most areas they are a single supplier, whereas with oil you can shop around to some degree. TBH our gas bill was very cheap at the start when we were living in a 2 bed flat (15 a month) but now it's somewhere in the region of a grand a year :eek: although that's in an old 4 bed detatched house.
For me the key thing to remember is that once it's in, you're committed to it. Might be worth considering an open fire or oil burning stove alongside.
Oh and never ever use the living flame gas fires - we worked out eventually that it costs as much to run one of them as to heat the whole rest of the house!0 -
my grandparents paid to get it piped into their house, cost them a fortune, but it seems to work quite well and be quite efficient, just depends if the DD's eventually help to lower your cost enough that you can justify the installment price!0

NIHE are replacing our Economy (not!) 7 heating with the Pheonix Gas in the spring, does anyone know how the prices compare & the best place to get a Gas Cooker from?
