I'm not sure that I know but my SIL makes a bread recipe that contains instant potato as she says her lads will only eat that. Could try a recipe that has that in, I suppose.

I actually love toast made with HM bread the most. It seems to come out far crunchier and like continental bread. Gorgeous!

I really want to make more bread this year. The prices in the supermarket have gone up so much. When I first got the breadmaker, I made bread quite often (as you do with a new toy) but my DD complains that the bread doesn't make nice toast. I have tried the standard loaf, the sandwich loaf, half wholemeal half white.

Does anyone have any tips on how to turn out a good loaf that also toasts nice?? Thanks
i use the dough improver from lakeland. at £8 ish a tub it's not cheap but the bread comes out more like shop baked bread. i use 1 teaspoon of it per loaf and use 1 teaspoon of yeast no matter what the recipe says other wise the loaf rises so much it sticks to the lid of the bm!

Hi all you MR experts!! I'm hoping to pick your brains ;)

I've been very lucky to have been given a MR breadmaker off Freecycle :j It is the 48220 standard model NOT the fastbake one.

I've found the instruction manual online which gives recipes so that's great but it doesn't have any of the measurement instruments with it.

I had a quick search through previous threads which indicated that 1 cup of flour was the equivalent of 8oz but I'm not sure about the water  and also as the tsp and tbsp are exact measurements I will be amazed if this first loaf turns out any good!! :rotfl:

Does anybody know where I can get replacements - can I just get them from a normal kitchen shop or will I need to buy them from MR?

Also, if anyone has any tips for a newbie I would be very grateful.

    Thanks!

    I love it :D:D:D

Although....... if you possibly can, go for 'the panny' (Panasonic sd253 or 4).

But the MR Fast bake is fine.

I love my MR Fast bake but i don't use the 'fastbake' setting on it as you use loads more sugar in it.

Also, i had another MR breadmaker before it broke (i did use it loads and loads over 7 yrs though) which made a 2 1/2 lb loaf and the loaf came out looking the shape of a shop bought loaf...whereas my new MR fastbake loaf comes out very tall and thin, so i turn it on its side before cutting it.

    I do love it though.

I forgot to say MR have a very good aftersale service which i have used sometimes over the last 8 yrs
