Jet2 50 Questions on Yorkshire - winners list

:mad:Have just received reply to my last email where they state that "due to an automated system error the flight prizes were incorrectly displayed as two return flights rather than one return flight" and that the error was corrected as soon as Jet2.com became aware of the problem.
They also refer to the terms and conditions and the fact that "Jet2.com may in it's absolute discretion change these terms and conditions without notice or cancel the promotion without notice."
After regrets and apologies they finally say that they are not cancelling the competition in its entirety but will honour the prizes intended ie one return flight per winner.
Good Luck to everyone else.0 -
Again, I have the same reply as Bob.
They quote the condition “Jet2.com may in its absolute discretion change these terms and conditions without notice or cancel the promotion without prior notice in the event of circumstances arising beyond its control that makes it necessary to do so."
I believe there is a clear argument that the circumstances were not beyond their control and therefore should not have changed the terms and conditions. I am going to reply with this info, and also inform them that I see a prize of one return flight as pretty much useless- the prizes are more a way of selling at least an extra 500 flights (as they will determine which flight is available and no doubt the price of an extra ticket on the same flights will be at least £120) :mad:0 -
Hi. I too am a 'winner' - I got flights to Prague. Up to and including yesterday, the t's and c's had reverted to saying '2 x return flights to the following destinations'. They have now changed back again. I too got the wooly email about an automated system error, and claiming they had the right to change the prizes after the draw had closed to whatever they chose. So to extend that theory, a promoter could say 'Win a car', and after the draw had closed say oh sorry, we changed that to a pen. Erm, no.
So what do we do now? Has anyone contacted the Advertising Standards Authority?0 -
Hiya all....
I actually won one of the 4* holidays... I had an e-mail at the beginning of Jan saying i'd won, and have now sent three e-mails with booking the holiday and asking for more information etc etc... and guess what...NO REPLY!!!!!

Hello all angry winners of the Jet2 Yorkshire competition,
I was unfortunate not to be one of the lucky ones but my 2 nephews were! Clearly Jet2 are in breach of their terms as they have changed the prizes on offer. My nephew was gutted when he was told he would have to pay for his fiancee to join him on their honeymoon later this year! x2 return flights means just that no argument. They made the error and should honour this if they have any sense of credibility and decency. I have won a previous competition with them which was x1 return flight to any destination of my choice. All was fine I got what I entered for. But I feel sorry for you guys who, like my nephews, have been conned at the last minute. Not very Yorkshire like I would say!!
We are contacting the local trading standards, the local radio and press about this and we would appreciate your support as a group to put pressure on the appauling actions of Jet2.
All comments welcome. Lets get what we deserve!0 -
I'm really glad to see some more people who are up for fighting this- I'm sure Jet2 are hoping we all act in a typical 'british' way and accept it!
I replied to jet2's response with the following;
I appreciate your reply, and in no way want to seem ungrateful for the prize, however I would like to highlight the following;
Below you state the condition- “Jet2.com may in its absolute discretion change these terms and conditions without notice or cancel the promotion without prior notice in the event of circumstances arising beyond its control that makes it necessary to do so. By entering this competition entrants are deemed to accept these rules” I will draw your attention to the part ‘in the event of circumstances arising beyond its control’. I do not believe an error of this type was ‘beyond your control’ and therefore the prize should not have been changed. I fail to see how it can have been ‘an automated system error’ and believe it was actually an employee’s error, but Jet2.com is hoping to limit the cost of this error by not honoring the T&C’s that were in place when the competition closed.
Your ‘Grand Yorkshire Quiz’ promotion which at first appeared to be a very interesting free competition, now appears to be more of a way of selling more flights. I would not travel alone to Ibiza, therefore after being allocated flights (out of my three choices) I would then have to pay whatever the current rate was for any extra flights for people travelling with me. More of a ‘loss leader’ (although I doubt there would be any loss to Jet2.com) than a competition prize.
Could you please supply me with a name and contact details of someone I can deal with directly about this matter, as I am taking advice on the legalities of your prize alteration.
Only to receive the following reply:
Dear xxx,
Thank you for your further email. Whilst we appreciate your comments, unfortunately there isn't a contact with whom you can deal directly.
Kind Regards
Jet2.com

So yes I am up for forming a group!!0 -
I also received this response from consumer direct:
Your competition entry may be classed as a unilateral contract, and as such the trader’s terms and conditions should not have been altered at a later date. We will refer this matter to Trading Standards as a potential breach of the Consumer Protection Regulations 2008. Whilst this would not help with your own complaint, Trading Standards can take into consideration such complaints in any dealings they have with the trader.
You should send the trader a recorded delivery letter, outlining everything to date, and giving a deadline to resolve the matter within a set period of time (i.e. 14 days). Make it very clear what you are claiming from the trader. It is also worth retaining copies of everything sent, for your records. If the trader does not respond to this letter with a satisfactory remedy, you should send the trader one more recorded delivery letter, this time giving the trader only 7 days in which to respond, making it clear to the trader that this is your final letter before taking further action.
So maybe a joint claim on behalf of any winners, rather than everyone sending their own?
I also copied my e-mail from the post above to watchdog@bbc.co.uk0 -
Morning all
I hope to have some excellent news on this matter very soon. The Advertising Standards Authority are persuing the matter. I also believe i am approaching a settlement with Jet2 but will let you know once I have this in writing.:jAugust 2010 V Festival VIP Tickets, October 2010, mini cruise to amsterdam for 40 -
Great News Everyone.
The following has been stated by Jet2 to the Advertising Standards Authority in connection with the prize flights:
“with regards to the competition we ran a flight giveaway where 1 return flight was given to various destinations from Leeds, where entrants who answered the most questions on Yorkshire would be entered into a free prize draw. 500 winners were chosen.
During the competition incorrect terms and conditions were posted on our website due to a system error. When initially posted the terms and conditions stated the prize was 2 return flights rather than 1 return flight - as soon as this came to light the terms and conditions were updated, as per the clause which allows us to vary the terms and conditions.
We have had communication from affected entrants for the competition who feel that we should not have varied the conditions. Without admitting liability and whilst reserving our position, we have taken the view that where an individual is able to prove to us that the terms and conditions showed the prize of 2 return flights at the point at which they entered, we will, as a gesture of goodwill, allow the winner to 2 return flights as part of the prize.
Please post on here is anyone has any problems.
PS I have some saved screenshots if necessary!:jAugust 2010 V Festival VIP Tickets, October 2010, mini cruise to amsterdam for 40 -
Well Done Neecho, that's terrific news. I did send them proof in my previous emails so I don't know if that will suffice or if I have to contact them again.
Thanks again0
