Well done Andy. Really inspiring!
Jwil, at the end of the year we should have a roll call of all those who have become debt free on this thread. There's quite a few now I think, aren't there? Or is it just those who have reached their target but are not necessarily debt free yet?
That's a great idea, though I'm not sure how many are debt free and how many have just reached their targets set on here. Roll call of target achievers would be good though!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Best Day Ever!! Today is DFD
I think I have been in debt since I started work at 18 and which maxed out 3 1/2 years ago at 55k when I split with my ex. 15 years on and it finally is all gone. Feel so incredibly relieved.
I will now treat myself to a nice bike for commuting/triathlons and the rest of this months money and future money goes to saving for the future and my impending child.
159. andyjsg - £14,949.81/£14,949.81
I hope everyone else keeps up the debt busting as it really is a great feeling!!
All the best
Andy

Which takes me to over half paid off - finally! Really thought I'd have done that by June . Sigh. Still, life goes on, and slow and steady wins the race.0

Halfway through September! HOw's it looking jwil? Might we beat last month's surprise total?
I'm having a grrrrrr moment at work. There's a 40th birthday drinks tonight, which is fine, but we're all asked to give money. It seemed to be voluntary at first but there's growing presure for everyone to do it - and I just don't believe in it. We don't usually do this for people's birthdays, even special ones - it was my 40th last year as well as several other people's and no one bought me a present, nor would I have expected them to. Surely going out for a celebratory drink is enough? I told the person organising it yesterday that I was tight for money, buit it's payday today so she came back again! Orgiinally the email said that if we wanted to contribute the envelope was on xxxx's desk. Surely that should be enough? How do you say, no thanks, I don't do that, without causing huge offence? It doesn't help that I work for a national newspaper and so everyone is very fashion-media-going-out-spending-money-orientated. I don't think MSE has ever crossed their radar!0 -

I haven't done a total yet for this month - will try and do one tomorrow, but I think we are pretty low again this month. It's been very quiet on here.
That's very frustrating about the collection - I hate things like that. It's very rude as well to ask when you've already said no. Especially when it doesn't seem to be a standard policy either!
My only suggestions are:
1) I've got a lot on this month so am tight for cash/I don't have any cash on me,
2) We didn't do it for X or X so I don't want to favour Y,
3) If there is an envelope with a lot of cash in it, just pull out a few smaller coins from your purse and chuck them in without the collection person seeing exactly what you are putting in.
I hope you manage to sort it though, it's frustrating and embarrasing when people put pressure on you."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0
