  • Whenever in a situation where I suspect the driver on the left will race off the traffic lights prior to a road merge,
This should read, I always suspect the driver on the left will race off the traffic lights prior to a road merge,
I will ALWAYS move left as soon as im ahead of him/her.
This should read, I will ALWAYS get ahead of him/her.
How do I get ahead without racing?
By accelerating faster than the other cars, then denying you are racing.

M40 / M42 Junction, note the closely dashed lines..... When these are present you are no longer on that motorway, your on a slip lane and can effectively undertake cars in the right hand lane. This line should also not be crossed by cars on the right, they should instead wait for the next slip lane to start (as per the map image).

You can pass cars on the motorway in any lane. If the right hand hand slows down to 60 mph where does it state you can't pass on the left at 70?

^^ Perhaps you need to watch the likes of road wars etc etc, I count numerous times where drivers and bikers have been pulled over after loosing patience with a fast lane hogger and then overtaking on the inside.

In addition to that it's mentioned in the highway code (now some tw4ts gonna start the "it's only a guide" crap again)

Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake.

and just to emphasise the point about those motorway slip lanes

    Driving on the motorway

Joining the motorway. When you join the motorway you will normally approach it from a road on the left (a slip road) or from an adjoining motorway. You should
    • give priority to traffic already on the motorway
    • check the traffic on the motorway and match your speed to fit safely into the traffic flow in the left-hand lane
    • not cross solid white lines that separate lanes or use the hard shoulder
    • stay on the slip road if it continues as an extra lane on the motorway
    • remain in the left-hand lane long enough to adjust to the speed of traffic before considering overtaking

Which is the fast lane then?

All three lanes have the same speed limit.

Lots move from 3 to 2 to pass a 'lane hogger' and if the 'lane hogger' is doing 70 then the one who does so is wrong.

Bikes passing between lanes 2 and 3 that are travelling at 70 mph are also wrong.

Nothing wrong in continuing at 70 in lane 1 if lanes 2 and 3 slow to 60. Thus in your words undertaking and still on the same motorway.

I thought you held the mantra of using all lanes available??
If someone chooses to sit in lane 2/3 and the inside lane is clear, and I can sit in that lane within the posted maximum limit, and still 'undertake' then feel free to take me to court as you'd only be wasting your own time.
Remember, I'm talking about driving within limits, not racing up behind someone, dropping a gear, nipping up the inside on a stealth overtake between 2 trucks then pulling back out when I've passed the 'hog', all above the maximum limits!

Anyways, back to OP, how you getting on with the insurance :D
  • i saw a bike get pinched between to cars which i thought was mildly amuzing

he should have really been there and people cat drive dead straight all the time
it crushed his boxes on the back but he didnt fall off

Do not overtake on the inside....

How simple does it need to be before you retards actually let it sink in?

^^ Nope, but you'd last about 10 minutes before the Police jumped on you.

UNLESS your in stationary or almost stationary traffic, which is what the HWC states for guidance.
