The audi is quite clearly moving out when you try to force your way round. If you admit you didn't need to indicate, and it's not illegal to overtake, as he is, why is it a problem when someone other than you does it? Loads of horn, flashing lights, then you undertake. Not good driving.
I had already changed lanes, why did he brake,( the van way in front of him gave him no reason to), then continue to brake as/when he changed lanes, hence why I nearly ran into the back of him,(don't pullout if it is not safe to do so), only my alertness stopped a collision. Put your glasses on!
.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Hmm, well it's your video, I can see the van in front brake, you must have missed it, and he starts to pull out. You miss that too, and you certainly then attempt an overtake well before the lights with junctions on both sides, but I'm sure the highway code wouldn't have applied to you there if you don't believe it to.0

^^ Rossy fair enough, but why are there two lanes if the left should be used at all times?
If you look further back, the reason is obvious.... The left hand lane also has a left turn governed by separate traffic lights, which I imagine during rush hour would cause the left hand lane to become all but useless.
The second lane isn't there to look pretty, it serves a practical purpose. The problem however is that a lot of people have this British queuing mentality and try to block the road when somebody has the "cheek" to use the road as it was designed to be used.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I agree it probably did have a left turn but again i didn't see it. I watched the vid a few pages back (was there more?).
No I found the road on Google maps and used street view to get an idea of the layoutDerek was just pulling away. He crossed the junction and appeared to be hitting the first merge left indication. The Toyota notices the incomming Audi on the inside and brakes. Derek reacts slighlty late and get's closer than i'd be comfortable with, The Audi shoots up the inside and under takes Derek and the Toyota. Derek then proceeds to "c*nt" the audi driver off
I wouldn't have done what Derrick did.
Once your ahead of traffic in the left hand lane, they are supposed to give way, this is why you shouldn't ever need to indicate when changing lanes to the left on the motorway (altough in practice it's difficult). It's also why you should NEVER overtake up the inside. So in the above i'd have moved left as soon as I was ahead and allowed the Audi driver to slam into my rear end if he really wanted to.
Whenever in a situation where I suspect the driver on the left will race off the traffic lights prior to a road merge, I will ALWAYS move left as soon as im ahead of him/her. How do I get ahead without racing? I simply don't sit there spinning the wheels like the idiot next to me.
I think racing on public roads is dangerous and it's best nipped in the bud before it gets out of hand.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Precisely. If Derek had moved over as soon as he was a few car lenghts infront of the Audi would of had no choice but to filter, although probably annoyed. If Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred0 -

Firstly, I wasn't aware of your 1st point (perhaps I should hand my license back), does being ahead of traffic in a different lane really mean that they must give way to you?
Example, travelling at posted limit on a motorway, vehicle in lane 1, vehicle ahead(just) in lane 2, lane 2 decides they want to come off at next slip, are they legally allowed to come off, indicating or not, where it might cause the car in lane 1 to brake hard? Even though both cars are at same speed, by the fact that the car in lane 2 is travelling forwards at the same time as travelling sideways 2 lanes, they are effectively slowing down their forward speed(vectors).
Secondly, never overtaking on the inside, my understanding of overtaking is when you are behind a car, then deliberately changing speed and direction to get past that car. Setting off from a set of lights(as per derricks video) together then perhaps dropping behind or nosing in front during gear changes whilst trying to attain a safe road speed is not in my book overtaking.
Thirdly, moving back to left after passing. Exactly how it should be but too many drivers forget whilst on dual carriageways/motorways. However, full use of mirrors must be utilised to make sure your inside is clear, an indication may be made if it is helpful to other road users (i.e there may be a vehicle on your offside that would also like to chage lane to your current position). At the end of the day, lane seperators should be treated like giveways, only cross over if it is clear and safe to do so. You wouldn't move back to the left with only a few inches to spare would you?0 -
^^ There are exceptions depending on the lines used... I'll show you.
HERE
M40 / M42 Junction, note the closely dashed lines..... When these are present you are no longer on that motorway, your on a slip lane and can effectively undertake cars in the right hand lane. This line should also not be crossed by cars on the right, they should instead wait for the next slip lane to start (as per the map image).johnfarquhar74 wrote: »You wouldn't move back to the left with only a few inches to spare would you?
If the guy is trying to accelerate and race up the inside and ends up inches from my car, that's entirely his own problem. Let's just hope nobody in front has to brake sharply......“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
