what sort of government uses water cannon on protestors?

People in the UK aren't taxed to death.
Have a look at the taxes paid elsewhere in Europe and the waste of their governments. Also have a look at the taxes people paid before Thatcher came into power.
Problem is that we have an entitlement culture and an expectation from the state that doesn't match the state's income raised from taxation.
Either the government (of any party) is open and honest about such things as how much they are spending on council grants so we clearly know why are council tax are the levels they are - or they continue to obfuscate tax issues.
Disagree completely. We are taxed to death.
Example, brother earns £1900, net pay £1500.
£400 in tax, NI.
I would rather pay less tax, take private health care in replace of the useless NHS.
That and 17% on everything you buy.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Did you say that, like, in an American accent in the style of Hannah Montana? lol
With the hand in front while saying it? lol
Not quite.

Also his employer will pay another £250 on top of that.0 -

Just skiming first page but re royals there was something on Radio Four last week about royals and economy/democracy. I was very frustrated to not be able to listen to it properly as it seemed a fascinating political argument PRO-democracy. Well worth finding for those who hold an opinion on the benefits or otherwise on remaining a monarchy.0

and what happens if a perfectly innocent protestor is next to someone who chooses to throw a brick? do they deserve to get hosed to the ground?
Let's say I feel strongly about the fee increase and decide to demonstrate next time in London. I know that there is a very strong possibility that that demonstration will have a significant number of criminals who have no interest in peaceful protest and will be there to cause illegal damage. I therefore have to make a decision about whether to go or not, as there is a chance I could get caught up in something nasty.
It reminds me of going to gigs. If you decide to go down in to the mosh pit at the front you can't really complain if you get a random boot in the head.0 -
There is enough research around mainly from Scandinavian countries showing that if you want equality of opportunity then you need to spend lots of money on pre-school education not on higher education.
That means you spend a large amount of the money available for education on family intervention and education of those aged 1-7, than educating those aged 18+. As if you get it right in those first years then your social costs such as prison costs, unemployment benefit costs and remedial classes for basic skills are much less.
is that why there are no tuition fees for higher education in norway and they are paid for entirely by the state? is that why higher education is also free in sweden (for swedes and foreigners)? is that why higher education is also free in finland? there are also no tuition fees for eu students in denmark.
the research on young age education is important and is surely to improve applications. however i don't think you will find any scandinavian government that sees introducing tuition fees as a way of improving equality of opportunity. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

this is a really sinister argument. it is basically blackmailing people against their right to peaceful protest.it is exactly the same argument used by the iranian regime who claim their tactics are merely to stop people getting hurt. surely the police should be more worried about innocent protestors getting harmed. they should be there to protect innocent protestors.
also pretty stupid if you are an unelected member of monarchy to drive in a car through an angry mob with your window down. perhaps it is they who should have stayed at home. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0
