  • So Courteener why do you think parents enforce the 18 rule as there is no evidence that the games harm children (but there is lots of tabloid hysteria)? And why do you think that parents who don't follow the consensus don't care what their children do? Yes, bad parents often let their children play 18 games but that does not mean parents who allow them are bad parents, just that they have a different view on the issue.
  • OK. Buying these games for children is not against the law.

What is the age restriction there for then?

We know our parents are circumventing the law by buying them for us and we wouldn't be allowed to buy them for ourselves, the same as !!!!!!, fags and beer.

It doesn't make us respect our parents rules or anybody else's.

Because it's a rule, and good parents are supposed to teach us to play by the rules.

*At 16 you can LEGALLY marry and carry out all those sex scenes, that you are not allowed LEGALLY to watch.(cheepskate)

Yeah. It's not the well parented kids who do that though is it?(courteener)

Why then do you slag down parenting skills here then..... they would be playing by the rules, is that not what you want.

It's not slagging, it's a statement of fact, but otherwise your post doesn't make sense.

How is getting married at 16 "playing by the rules"?
  • Must be the younger genreation, when going out and getting married before you have sex is some sort of bad thing. :)

By saying "playing by the rules" as its what the law says, so has got to be correct(in the context of this topic)

But it doesnt really matter as you didnt really understand my original post that had that part in it

I find it amazing that all these people are shouting about the law and how its 18, so classed that way for a reason.

    Here we go:

*At 17 you can LEGALLY have a firearms certificate and buy/own firearms and ammo, so the goverment is LEGALLY allowing you to own the tools of killing, but wont allow you to watch /play an animation.

*At 16 you can LEGALLY be trained to , slaughter men or be slaughtered , in the name of war(until recently Gulf/Kosovo wars, under 18's were sent into war. Even now despite the current policy of keeping those under 18 out of hostilities, the MoD spokesman admitted it was not always possible), but again you are not allowed to play a war game that is less violent than what you have actually experienced.

*At 16 you can LEGALLY marry and carry out all those sex scenes, that you always wanted to do, but are still not allowed LEGALLY to watch

At 12 you are LEGALLY allowed to buy a pet, as they believe obviously you are mature enough to care for this animal, but not to play an animation

*At ANY AGE you are LEGALLY allowed to become a parent

AT ANY age you are LEGALLY allowed to own a shotgun licence.

As for the marked ones, as parents you would have no say in the matter, but of course you could still enforce the game rule, just to make you feel better.

    Says it all really

At ANY age you are legally allowed to engage brain. And making a conscious decision to give an 18 game to an 8 year old is the wrong one. End of!
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I thought that apart from the stark staring blooming obvious it was a bad idea to let your child play these games in online mode because p a e d o philes use the online mode to get an "in" into your child's life?

Would just be interested in how many people that slag off the parents for allowing their child to play these games, allow their children to have a facebook account before they were old enough legally
