I paid £500 off my mortgage last month, hitting my target of £1000 this year, would like to make another payment before the end of the year, but have a holiday planned and then it's Christmas. Still hoping to save a little anyway.

I haven't OP'd for ages as I moved house last month (technically I paid it off but got a much bigger one instead!)

Anyway, OP so far this year total £3438.79. I would like to make it a nice round tidy figure though so would like to change my target from £10000 to £4000. I would like to get lots of jobs done on the house so I can start 2012 properly!

I'm detailing my progress in my diary

    MFW #48 reporting in (early..)

Latest overpayment of 2011 will be made on the 15th August 2011 Overpayment target: £1200
    August overpayment : £50
    Overpayments to date: £1100

My overall mortgage status is now:

    Mortgage at 15/08/2011
    Outstanding balance: £47,183
Estimated endowment value: £27,359 (revalued 1 July)
    Investments: £14,663
    Deficit: -£5,161

For my information on the damage I'm doing to the mortgage, here's the link to my diary...

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1854517

My overpayments since Jan 09 will also save me an estimated £1,290 before my original target MF date of September 2014.

My overpayment reserve is £7,850, well over 22 months regular mortgage payments.

With the (relative) success of this strategy, the stretch target of September 2012 remains the new target (13 months to go and counting....)

No decision yet on my invitation to negotiate a new deal on the mortgage when my fixed rate expires. However, a BMR of 2.5% looks attractive with just 12 months to go, so this looks like the best option for now.

Investments have been in reverse since I last reported (well mostly! See the diary link above), but it has no significant impact on the overall strategy. I feel like I'm coming into the home stretch on this project and I can't wait until 2012.

Good to see everyone else's progress. Keep the faith!

  • Number 13 - Sorry I have not been updating. I've made a regular overpayment of £100 per month this year so £800 so far!
