As well as the cost (50p vs 12p) I believe its because of fraud.
How often does a credit/debit card payment "bounce" after being authorised?
A lot less often than a dodgy chequebook...

i'd say good that theyre not taking cheques cos in the past when I got really hard up I have a tendency - fraud I know:eek: - to write out a cheque - knowing ( or hoping) that wages will be paid into my account before the cheque clears.

However quite frequently that didnt happen quite like that and I got charges.

It'll be better for people like I used to be ( not like i am now!!!!! cos now i'm a good girlie:rotfl: )

Realistically not many people use cheques nowadays, my cheque book hardly ever gets used amd I don't know anyone that still uses theirs.

I also feel chip and pin isn't safe. :(
    I :heart2: saving money
  • Its all fair and well covering when you are entering tyour pin but when its going down the line its not secure so whats then point. The UK banks only had to pay an extra 50p per account/person to get the secure chip and pin but they didnt brother.

I remember I had to change my pin because one of my class mates saw the last 2 numbers when I was entering it so I had to go to the hole in the wall at the Abbey then changed it. under 10 minutes since my class mate saw it, I changed it.
  • Cumbrian male - halifax do not charge anyone for using the counter
  • I think a lot of these cheque changes are not so much shops but the banks

also you can not write a cheque direct to say "Halifax" or British Gas" now - you must put either persons name with it or the account number. This is for security
  • I remember I had to change my pin because one of my class mates saw the last 2 numbers when I was entering it

That still leaves 100 combinations for your class mate to try :)

I know thank god I changed it with 10 mins.
  • I also hate the way companies try and force direct debits on you. My mum still prefers to pay her utility bills in full when they come, but the companies keep pestering her to set up direct debits. Why cant they leave people alone?
