Your one pearl of wisdom. There is no magic remedy or secret to clearing debt. It is hard work to keep motivated and focused. We tried all we could to maximise our income and pay off the smaller debts first. As these were paid off and cancelled it gave us enormous motivation to keep going. We also used whatsthecost.com to see how we could snowball our debt payments. As time went on we questioned every purchase and kept a spending diary on a big whiteboard in our kitchen so we could always see what we had spent and where the money was going and we will be continuing with that. You also need to be realistic too especially with a family as you will almost certainly not be able to pay as much debt in school holidays and especially christmas. However keep going and stay on DFW as the support is second to none!Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0 -

My word of advice - don't give up ever!0 -
Lightbulb moment: Probably 30th December 1999 - the eve of the new millenium, 4 months after getting married, and the day I found out I was pregnant with my son. We were living in a grotty rented flat, absolutely stoney broke and with £17k worth of debt (about £5k was my car loan and rest was hubby's from before I met him). I remember thinking 'we've got responsibilities now, things have got to change'.
Debt at highest: As above, but then when we had paid quite a lot of it back, we borrowed another £5k for a car, so the overall amount we have paid off is around £22k.
Debtfree date: Today! (12th August 2008)
Pearl of wisdom: There's no easy way out or quick fix - it's about making lifestyle changes that are sustainable over a long period, and keeping going even when there seems to be no end in sight, or when it feels like life is ganging up on you.
And you need good friends to support you through the bad times, and celebrate with you in the good times. That's what I have found here on DFW - you are amazing, thank you xxx"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
