    Pearl of wisdom...

    Hmmmm tricky, but here goes

Shred, burn and then bury your Credit Cards, they are not your friends....

Remember that small victories here and there win the war

    and finally,

Although being focussed is essential, remember to pause every once in a while, turn around, see how far you've come, congratulate yourself for what you've achieved and allow yourself the occaisional treat for getting that far. After all, DFW is not just all about sacrifice and struggle, its a lifestyle and every lifestyle must have some degree of balance.

Good luck with your own Debt Free Journeys and here's to a great community.

Perl of Wisdom: Keep going folks, you will get there. Try not to be too harsh or strict with the budgets as this has the same effect of dieting ie binge and purge. Set realistic budgets and timescales and allow yourself a little slack.

Pearl of Wisdom: Set a budget and stick to it. Review it often so that it stays current. Don't think of this as a harsh regime but as a way of giving you financial freedom. Post often to the DFW boards for help, inspiration and support.

Debt Free Diary: Not really a diary as such, but I think it was amongst my first posts and it said about my situation, and got updated.

Keeping a spending diary really does make a difference and really does demotivate you from spending on rubbish, it took me a long while to do this properly but really made a difference during the final countdown. Also I found setting a deadline helped and I spent literally months dithering and reducing the amount I was chucking at the debt. In the end I decided I wanted to be debt free by May 08 and changed my payment plan accordingly, which meant I had to reduce my budget on other things accordingly! Oh, and reading this site regularly, obviously!

Pearl of wisdon: Be ruthless: you just need to spend less than you earn! Look into additional ways of earning money - matched betting, cashback, etc. Prepare a nice spreadsheet with graphs and then each month you can work out how you're really doing.

Good luck people - it feels amazing to make it out the other end of the debt tunnel. :j

Had LBM Around 1997  but struggled with how to pay everything off properly until finding this site 2 years ago. That speeded things up a lot.

    Debt at highest £15,000

    Debt free date 06/05/2008

Pearls of wisdom: Nothing that you wouldn't have already heard, spend less, save where possible, sell as much as possible on Ebay. Amazon etc, also having a spreadheet of my money down the last penny really helped, even if it was a drag sometimes it motivated me loads. Check bank balance every day! (I still do this). Most importantly don't let it get you down!
