My one pearl of wisdom is this:
NEVER EVER GET A CREDIT CARD THINKING I WILL ONLY USE IT FOR EMERGENCIES:rolleyes::heartpulsOnce a Flylady, always a Flylady:heartpuls0 -

Well I finally made it and I am debt free after more than four years. I find it slightly ironic that the day I pay off my last debt is the day a recession is announced. Technically I have £7k stoozed but I'm not counting that as I pay it off in a few weeks
a. The date of your lightbulb moment 26 Sept 04
b. Debts at their highest £16,990.98 ish includes student loan, overdraft, credit cards and graduate loan.
c. Debt-Free Date 23 Jan 09
d. Your one pearl of wisdom. Keep a record of your debt, it's motivational to see your debt fall every month.0 -
Debt free as of 13 feb 08
Debts £4000 ish in sept 2006, when I had medical problems that meant I couldn't work for a long time
My one pearl of wisdom is to keep records of every payment and full and final settlement for at least 6 years;)“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Wow! As of 10 minutes ago, when I cleared the final CC payment, I have no debts at all. None. First time in many, many years. In fact, now, having retired a couple of months ago, we are in fact better off than we've ever been in 38 years of marriage!! Now, if this site had been around when we were in our twenties - we'd be wealthy! Never mind, comfortable and able to indulge in travel, theatre visits etc will do very nicely thank you!
Lightbulb moment: soon after discovering this site in June 2005
Debts at highest: £17,000 plus mortgage....Both gone!!!
Best tip: keeping a spending diary to see where it's all going. (Also, finding the OS board and meal-planning!)
Never had my own diary on here but found Immoral Angel's truly inspiring.
My thanks to Martin, for creating this site - retirement might have been very different if I hadn't been steadily clearing debts and repaying the mortgage. A few years ago our current incomes wouldn't have covered the debt repayments let alone the ongoing monthly outgoings like food, fuel, phones, etc. - now we have loads to spare! Yeay!
Sp that's it - I'm now officially a former DFW nerd, no. 647!Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!1 -
WooHoo we are finally here
Lightbulb moment Jan 2006 but it was flickering before I found the site just didn't know what to do about it!!
Debt at highest Over £36,000
Pearls of wisdom Keep a spending diary definately and when you start off take your time!!! We all feel like motoring along at 100 miles an hour at the start but for most of us its a long haul...
It took us 6 months, rejigging our finances again and again before we settled on our grand plan ,then we had to stick to it.
This time we did and thanks to the support from so many of you all on here, at times when we didn't know which way to turn we finally made it
*I refuse to give up my nerd number tho* :rotfl:0 -
