And FYI "sponging off the hard working" seriously how much do you know about DLA?! You know it isnt means tested and is not an unemployment benefit! I get it and I work, if it wasnt for DLA I wouldnt be able to work! seriously some people are plain simple!

Now don't be silly. Unless of course you think Labour had grown another magic money tree to replace the one they stripped bare.

Living in England I also wish we could be free of the financial burden of the Scots. I also wish Scottish MPs were not allowed to interfere and vote on matters that only concern England.

At least now we have an English PM so perhaps there will be less emphasis on money to be chucked at Scotland. Certainly the coalition cannot perform as poorly as Labour did.

i do have to agree with you their, scotland voted labour yet we have an snp government and have to also abide by the coalition rules.

in an ideal world scots wouldnt interfere with the english parliament and vice versa, but we are not independant

i do wish though that the news when mentioning the cuts would also focus on the scottish budget and not always the english/welsh

Don't be ridiculous - I never said that.

The point of the thread was that money given for DLA should be shown to be used for the purpose it was given ie Care or Mobility.

Being married, I have a full time carer already which doesn't cost me a penny. So why would married claimants need money to pay for care - quite simple!

I don't need taxis because I am married and my wife takes me where ever I need to go - so why do married claimants need financial help for mobility?

If I was entitled to HRM, what would I need the money for? I don't need a car, my wife has one. She can't drive two cars!

What I am saying is that the whole idea of DLA needs rethinking about.
It should be based on need and requirement THAT is already not being provided for by family, friends or otherwise.
Looking at that I can see quite a few charities that could fill that gap without the money going to the claimant but direct to the charities instead.
why do you claim low rate mobility if you dont need it ,if you think dla is not for couples as you state why claim dla im confused your talking out the back of your a**E just because someone has a husband or wife they will still make use of the dla to help with their needs.
Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)

No doubt Scottish news programmes concentrates on what is happening in Scotland.

The Scottish Parliament decides for the most part how the available cash is spent in Scotland, often handing out things that can't be afforded for the English.

This new DLA benefit should now for the very first time be re-looked at to provide for only things that are not there. Not what might be needed. Not what could be needed. If there is no need then there is no money!
On top of that, let's clear the decks of these people that are using DLA is a top up of income to help pay for other things. And with regular testing it will solve the problem of people failing to inform the DLA that their health has improved.

    This is a ridiculous idea:
I went to get my eyes tested this morning and was expecting to be told that my problems are down to tiredness. I ended up spending £169 on glasses. Without DLA, I wouldn't have been able to pay them for them, plus the cycling gloves I need.

I also have unpredictable conditions. I've spent the best part of a week with (sorry for TMI!) diarrhoea. How on earth is that something I could predict? And how can I predict when my depression is going to get bad again? I can't.

Here we go again! [STRIKE]Gemma[/STRIKE]/[STRIKE]Andy[/STRIKE] Are you not taking your ESA claim to tribunal yourself? This does seem to be rather contradictory to your postings on this thread?

    Yes I am thankyou!

It is quite simple - those that are genuinely entitled to a benefit should have it - I am only concerned about the toerags that are abusing the system at the expense of all of us.

The changes (ESA & DLA) are long overdue, and with the action that the governemnt intend taking, I am hoping that we see quite a lot up before the courts charged with benefit fraud.

As regards myself - I am only challenging the way the law has been applied. If it was about money I would have kept my mouth shut when I was given the 'work' group. Instead I succesfully argued that there is no evidence to support that decision for the work group. The DWP agreed and cancelled the work group after 24 days. I then appealed again as I should be in the support group - appeal pending.

    That OK for you?
At least I tell it as it is and don't see everything as a £ sign!!

And by the way I have no idea who that Andy is or indeed Gemma. And I haven't got the intention of asking either.

At least I have a job and I'm not claiming unemployment benefits!

If you're well enough to type on an internet forum you're well enough to get off your !!!! and get a job you scrounger!

ETA this is aimed specifically at oldestrocker who is too disabled to work but disabled enough to condem the rest of us................poor chicken.

What utter rubbish!!! Good on you and please carry on working - you are paying for my Civil Service pension that I get each month and have had since I was 60!

I am not claiming JSA - I claim ESA!!!

I can't work unfortunately, my GP says so, my Consultants say so, so who am I to believe - you or them?

As for condemning you, why should I? If you are genuinely entitled to a disability benefit - that's OK with me - If on the other hand you are defrauding the system in any way - times are a changing!

I believe that those who are genuine will have no objections to more assessments, more checks and more questions by the government if it means we clear the decks of the so called 'bad back' brigade once and for all!

I do love it when people go "everyone knows someone claiming DLA fraudulenty" when clearly they dont, have no proof and if they did they would shopped the person and had them investigated,
I don't agree. Of eight DLA claimants that I know some of which are family members, 6 are claiming the benefits illegally. Be it down right lies told or at best, exagerations. None have ever had a medical and very few have had a GP referral.
Most of these 6 (5 in fact) have been given life awards going back as far as 1993.
These same 5 worked together on a large tunnelling exercise and by coincidence all 5 had industrial accidents within 8 weeks of each other. By further coincidence, this all happened approx 3 months before the project was finished. All 5 received substantial damages from the company concerned.
All 5 (officially) have never worked since!!
The 6th was pensioned off from a large ferry operator. He was an engineer and 'suffered' significant hearing loss due to working in the engine room. He received a substantial payout and pensioned off. His 'disability' came about from using shotguns for over 30 years and it made him deaf!!
As I said most are friends and family and I will not be party to them being charged with benefit fraud + whatever else they find + the fraudalent insurance claims.
If it comes about from info from elsewhere then OK I can live with that.

there is no facts it is entirely just your opinion and if you had half a brain cell you would see the maths dont add up when you see how many people they want to get off DLA, genuine people who need it ARE going to miss out because the goverment needs to save money, some people can harp on as much as they like about people playing the system but are infact either bitter or got too much time on their hands, busy bodies who hate to see someone get something that they think IN THERE OPINION they dont deserve.
I don't quote opinions, I relate to factual info.
And no I'm not bitter. I enjoy a good fight - win or lose - the fight is spark that keeps me going, not the money.

And if need be, I am sure that I could come up with another dozen or so cases that I have come across in my travels over the past few months if you are interested.
