The email some of us got from MSE officials says this (hope it's OK to quote!):

We've noticed that often words such as 'scam' or 'cowboys' are being used and unfortunately it puts the site at risk of legal threats from these companies, especially any allegation that they act unlawfully. The last thing we want to happen is that helpful threads or posts are removed because they are deemed as being defamatory or libelous.
We would really appreciate it if you could help us tackle this issue, so that less experienced users don’t end up using these words and stick only to the facts, this way it reduces the risk to the site and it'll mean we can all continue to help those looking for answers.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

I can understand that threats from one of the companies we know and hate has caused MSE to go the same way as pepipoo and CAG regarding the sc*m word, but the cowboy word? When Martin started it?!
I replied thus, not wishing to argue or cause offence but just saying, like:
 QUOTE
Hmmmm...Martin Lewis uses the word Cowboys on MSE and in the national and local press very, very frequently about private parking tickets, here are some examples:
'These supposed 'fines' are the new Wild West, and whether the cowboys do it at supermarkets, retail parks, hospitals or housing estates, they're often unenforceable.'
 http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/rec...arking-tickets
'It’s time to stick on your hat and grab a lasso, because you’re entering the land of the cowboys.'
 Bournemouth Echo
 Northern Echo
Has Pinky or Perky sent a legal threat? Why does the site still carry Martin's use of 'cowboys' then?
 kind regards,
 Coupon-mad

We can live without the s word. Just like the f word. Dress it up as something else when needed. I really like barry's alternative but he may claim copyright. 0 0

With the US moving inexorably down the path of facism, as illustrated by the pursuit of a possible death penalty (espionage) or murder against Julian Assange, we can all expect a more rigorous intervention by discussion board administrators in the future.
Apart from the legal issues of defamation, using terms such as cowboys and scammers to describe legitimate business' and activitists is fairly lowbrow. My mother always advised me to "learn the English language before ba5tardising it".:)A stitch in time means you can't afford a new one.0

I don't agree with censorship especially when PPCs act illegally and unethically!
From now on I will call them John Wayne's, let people draw their own conclusions as to why, nothing wrong with saying that MSE Moderators, is there?Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0

Perhaps we could develop a list of euphamisms or alternative and non-libelous names to use when talking about our dear friends who tirelessly and thanklessly redistribute wealth from the vulnerable and gullible. Suggestions anyone?Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!0

Learn to spell words correctly too while you're at it.
I just think the lot of them are so called "people" with very questionable indeed doubtful parentage !0
