Aldi is so expensive - am I missing something?

I must admit I love Aldi, but we do mix and match with Sainsbury's basics. My husband and I price check between the two and to be honest lots of the time Aldi comes out either cheaper or exactly the same price, but the quality is a lot better. We did a shop today and here are some of out findings!
Loads and loads of cheap vegetables and fruit, significantly cheaper than sains
Same price but better items include
baked beans, tinned tomatoes, frozen peas, bread flour, soups, kidney beans, mushy peas, branflakes
Cheaper and still better items include
egg noodles, 500g long grain rice, lean mince beef, chicken leg quarters, honey roast peanuts, olives, sugar (not necessarily better, but 30p in difference) , crispbreads, extra light mayo (third of price of helmans! no basics equivalent)
There are also lots of yummy things which are more luxury items and we would never buy. And it goes without saying that there is no sainsbury's basics equivalent!
But there are things which we buy in sainsbury's because all we want is basics, and sometimes aldi doesn't do it as basic as the basic range eg sparkling table water, skimmed UHT milk, tonic water, orangeade, fromage frais, pasta shapes, spaghetti, tinned fruit.
So I think that you have to compare when it comes to basic items - where the best value is. But if you are used to buying brand goods and don't want to go to basics then aldi represents a really big saving. I always feel like I am getting a real bargain when I can get something at the same price or a little less than the basics because it does come out better in quality. It feels like a treat without actually costing anymore!
Love it!0
