Mine was supposed to have been delivered today. About midnight - 1am last night, I got an e mail from M&S to say that it would now arrive on the 23rd December. I then contacted M&S, to ask if I could change the delivery address (website wouldn't let me amend order), because the person who the present is for - I was seeing on the 20th / they live 2.5 hours away / would not see them again before Christmas.

When I woke up this morning, M&S sent me another e mail to say it had been dispatched via Royal Mail and it is somewhere in the NW England (according their tracking).

Early this afternoon M&S called, to chase up the e mail that I had sent last night. Explained that I had subsequently received an e mail, to notify me of dispatch. The person said that they'd run out in their main distribution centre, and were dispatching from elsewhere .... hence mine is coming from the NW somewhere. They pointed out that due to snow, and other factors then my delivery could be delayed.

They suggested cancelling, re-ordering the product and getting it delivered to the store - they said these are being processed quicker. They were going to find out my estimated delivery time, and get back to me tomorrow.

Since the item has been dispatched - then I would assume cancellation would need to be done by phone. Secondly since people haven't had their orders, then it seems a risky suggestion (interesting M&S are advocating it).

(For the record, store collection is a bit difficult for me, my nearest M&S is over an hour's drive away, which is why I opt for home delivery).

Stores all over the UK, might be worth ringing to find out the price and possibly asking if they'll hold one for you. :)
