Jaxx - I lived in Gosport for a while, think it was shut!
Afternoon All
What a morning. It was raining when I got up and the rain turned to sleet. By the time I was ready it was heavy snow. Should have realised how bad it was when some other drivers had to give me a shove onto the main road, but no, I soldiered on. Got to school only to find that the head was advising parents to take their children home again. A decision was made to close the school and I got away at 9.30. The road outside was gridlocked so I decided to go on the bypass - big mistake! Got to the roundabout after an hour and a half only to find that the road was closed. Had to abandon my car part way and walk the rest of the way. Got home to discover I had left the house key in the car. Thankfully the spare key was where it should be. Eventually got in at 12.30 - THREE HOURS to do a normally 10 minute journey. Anyway at least I am safe and will go back for the car in a bit. Wouldn't mind but I was home about 20 mins and the road opened!!!
Had HM soup when I got in, hadn't had any breakfast so was starving. I am making a couple of banana loaves to use up the sad bananas and may bake some twinks later.
Hope you are all warm and safe, take care and thanks for listening!! XX0 -

Still bitterly cold here and lots of snow on the ground. Since no snow was forecast for today I decided to go into Manchester to do some more Christmas shopping. I dithered between wearing my walking boots or ordinary shoes with ice-grips but DH pointed out that my feet would be cold in shoes so wore the boots. The paths down to the station are still really bad. I crossed the road at one point as the pavement on the other side looked clear only to discover it was black ice.
The train was freezing, there was frost at the bottom of the windows-on the inside! Still snow in Machester although the pavements were clear.
I got DD1 a pair of fleece pjs from Primark. She's coming up by train this year and can't bring much luggage so I said I'd buy her a pair of pjs to leave here. DD2 already has a couple of old pairs here.I got a nice fleece blanket from Primark too-purple on one side and pink on the other. It was reduced to £2.
DD1 wanted a new address book . I picked up one reduced from £7.99 to £3.99 but when it was scanned at the till it was only £1.99. I pointed out to the assistant that it was marked at £3.99 but he didn't seem bothered so I got it at £1.99. I also had a £5 Body Shop voucher from yesterdays paper so got a couple of bubble baths as stocking fillers. There was a Sharpe book that DH hadn't read in the Works and I got 10 blank cards with envelopes in Poundland so will use up some of my scrapbooking oddments to make cards after Christmas. So I felt that I'd done quite well today.
It was a long walk up the hill back from the station though.0 -

My life feels like a bad comedy at the minute "The World's Unluckiest Girl"?
I have a deadline/exam everyday this week.
Work haven't sorted the christmas hours yet so i can't book my trains home yet, if it's left any later it'll be £60+ each way so I won't be able to afford to go home and i might have to come back after two days!!
The disgusting flatmates are calmly refusing to do their part of the cleaning rota today and claim the rubbish is a "collection"- a collection that will be on their beds at 6pm tonight if it's not cleaned up first!!
I was thinking how the day couldn't get much worse, then I get home and the entire flat reaks of solvent. The boys thought it was my nail varnish?! The whole two storeys stink! I'm sitting in my room freezing with the window open because the smell is so bad.
Someone bury me in the snow somewhere so I can ignore it allLiving cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Evening All!
As you've heard, we've had a little bit of snow hereI had an appointment this morning in thw city centre at 9.30, and left the house at 8.50 to drop the boys at school, and the snow arrived at the same time. By the time we got into Glasgow, the snow was about 2 inches on the city centre roads, and by the time I got back in the car at 10.15 it was even worse. It took us almost five and a half hours to get home, its about five miles I would guess. We were stopping every five yards at the most, people were slipping all over the road. Luckily OH was in another vehicle, and drove behind me, so we had the option of a second mode of transport if one of them gave up, there were lots of people slipping and sliding all over the road, and lots of men puching or digging out other motorists to try and keep the traffic moving. I have never experienced anything like it in my life!!
It was like a scene from The Day After Tomorrow!
No OS today, but OH isn't going away now, so the tree will probably go up tomorrow as the 16 inches of snow which fell in four hours today has closed the schools. Plenty of food in, heating working fine, and I am staying put!
Hope the sick friends, and your sick relatives are on the mend, or at least keeping the same.
Hugs Spoons and Hi5's for everyone. NPM I am sure the roads will be cleared a lot overnight, as long as it doesn't fall again like it did today there is still a good chance they will make it.

Evening allOn a happier note I am absurdly happy because i bought myself a Cath Kidston shopping trolley yesterday
Snoozer - I adore Cath Kidston stuff!DD1 wanted a new address book . I picked up one reduced from £7.99 to £3.99 but when it was scanned at the till it was only £1.99.
thirzah - where did you get the address book from? I am looking for one for my nan for her birthday but oddly can't find any! I've tried Tesco, Wilko, Home Bargains and the £ Shop!
NPM - finger's crossed your parents, dress and veil all make it for the big day!
Bitterly cold here today, I decided to walk to work as the car park here was like an ice rink so didn't want to risk bumping the car for a 3min journey. The walk was only 20mins and it's a nice walk. A colleague gave me a lift home cos it was dark when I left work (although I was happy to walk, he insisted!).
First day back in work after my holiday, work kids had missed me! And they liked the maple cookies I brought back! Today we were holding a market stall in the shopping centre entrance. We didn't have much hope of many work kids turning up cos they all complain it's embarassing to stand in the town centre :rotfl:, but only 2 were absent. We just had bric a brac on the stall and took donations for any items people wanted, lots of people just gave donations. We raised a fantastic £120 :j:j. It was quite cold as we were at the entrance but they hardly complained. I also snaffled myself 2 ramekins for 50p!
Not much OS here today, dinner will be leftover HM veg chilli with rice or jacket spud. I may make another soup, I'll delve into my recipe book to see if anything appeals to me.
Tonight I need to finish off my uni assignment, it just needs tweaking and printing (well emailing to work and printing there tomorrow). After dinner I'm going to sit down with my copy of the new Cook Vegetarian magazine and see what new things they have
.
Have a good evening all
