we were never taught to believe in santa (or any religion for that matter), so all our presents were from our parents.

Santa is not a religious figure...... but the whole Christmas thing is pretty Christian!

A friend had a similar problem the other day when her daughter asked why the tooth fairy had given her friend more money that she had been given.
Different tooth fairies have different routes and may give differing amounts. If kids live next door to each other and get differing amounts they must live on a boundary line. if a child moves to a house where previously the tooth fairy paid more then there must have been an area re-shuffle.

You can see I have my work cut out with my kids....

Santa does the stocking, all the rest of from parents / family / friends. Santa delivers them all though.

Haha love this spend less! We're another household who has one pressy from Santa. If the boys aren't good though he will add it to the pile for children who don't have family to buy for them .

My young ones are 11 & 12 now and still belive in Santa. My eldest is 17 and doesnt really believe any more but still goes along with it for the younger ones and loves Christmas. They all get only one main gift from Santa (there list is steered in the right direction). They know the rest of the little bits come from us and family, and who they have to write thank you letters to (including Santa). Every year my children spend some of their savings on a present they would like for people who dont have any presents and donate it to charity, its there way to play Santa for people that might be forgotton about at this time of year.

  • My children had a stocking from Santa and the other presents from us or whoever gave them. The reason for this comes from something my mother said. They were quite a large family with not much money yet their aunt and uncle who had no children and were financially better off only bought the children a small present at Christmas. As children they (privately) thought this a bit mean. Mum realised years later that the big (Santa) presents had been bought by the aunt and uncle who never had the pleasure of being thanked for them by their nieces and nephew.

When I was little Santa brought the stocking at the end of my bed AND my "big" present - bike, stereo, dolls house etc etc! I do remember thinking that my parents were a bit mean as friends' parents bought them bikes etc and mine just bought clothes and small gifts and mine left it all up to Santa. It also meant we couldn't thank them properly for a much loved gift.
When my kids were smaller they got a stocking at the end of their bed from Santa and everything else was from whomever gave them the gift. Now they are teenagers they get nothing form Santa!

    It's only a game

we say santa brings them one main pressie and fills there stocking's. any pressies under the tree in the dining room is from santa. and the pressies in the lounge under the tree are pressies from the family.

They are more than happy with this,This is the way hubby was brought up. my children are still young 7,5 and 2 so still believe in santa. but they have no reason not to.
  • I don't have any kids, but when I was a kid all the presents were from Santa. It never occured to me to question why my parents never bought me presents because no one did but Santa. My parents had to work their backsides off to buy us presents but never claimed an iota of credit for it, other than passing on our lists to Santa, because they wanted to keep the magic alive for us. Now I'm old enough to understand that, I admire them greatly for it!

    Just wondering.....

My son has written his list. I have bought everything he asked for but I am wondering if you guys say its all off santa or off you as parents?

Its just I have worked hard for the money for presents & Im getting a bit fed up of Santa getting all the bloody praise!!!!

My friend just gives her children a few games & a tangerine off Santa & she gives them the rest.

    Unsure!!!

    What do you guys do?

everyone does it differently - in our house nothing is from parents, everything is from Santa. DD has asked why she doesn't get anything from us, we have always told her its because we have to help Santa pay for all the pressies ;).

The pressies from Santa are all in her Santa sack, ready to be opened when she awakes on Christmas morning. Pressies from friends and family are all opened later in the day, when the family is all together (ie my sisters, brother, their families, and my mum).
