We have the presents all from santa but last year we gave DD a new pair of pyjamas on christmas eve, but she is young and will not remember this. This year I have bought new pyjamas and a christmas film which she will be given at dinnertime from us and then she will have all the rest of the presents from santa the next day.MFIT T2 Challenge - No 46

Santa brings a few presents & the stocking for my girls. We read who each present is from so they (we) know who to thank.
I think it is important that children know that people have thought about them & brought them presents.
My eldest (age 6) is going to be disappointed this year. She wrote her letter to Santa early the other morning & brought it into our room to show us, she wants a scooter with makeup under it & some makeup....we already have scooters so I am not going to get another. I think Santa will be writing her a letter to explain that he only has so many of each item & they all had to go to children who did not already have a scooter0 -
The thing about saying Santa brings all the presents is fine until they get to school and realise that some of their friends get better/more presents than them, try explaining that one.0

A friend had a similar problem the other day when her daughter asked why the tooth fairy had given her friend more money that she had been given.0 -
our two boys (who are 11 and 8) no the eldest does not believe but the younger is not too sure,
they have always had thier stockings at the end of the bed from father xmas and the presents under the tree are from us, also when they write thier xmas lists they always add a present to it which we go to buy together and donate to a local childrens charity for a child to recieve.now proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0 -
In the first few years I bought an enormous sack and put in games, toys then every day essentials.
Now I am much more restrained, more due to the fact we have Christmas with other children and it would be unfair if their sock is compared with a stocking as big as the children!
So we have bought knitted stockings, larger than a sock, more like a big boot. In it will be tooth brushes, hair things, small toys, chocolate coins, satsuma, pencil cases, pencils rulers etc.
Our presents will be the big ones. Bike for one, Massive play set for the other. Then little bits that don't fit in a stocking like big books, a game etc.
So FC in our house will from now on be getting nice everyday essentials and we can give the nice big present.
When I grew up we used to have FC deliver a rather large sack of every day essentials and one big present that we would need to hunt around the house for.

Proper presents are from people, Santa deals with the stocking gifts. However, he does the deliveries of all the presents.
The magic of Christmas does require a bit of self-delusion mind you, as there are presents already under the tree from us to other family members.
Do your children choose any presents for other people? And what happens then? My DS (age 7) has been more interested in what he wants to get other people than what he's getting.0 -
Interesting one this, I was just talking about it with my mum the other day. She thinks all presents (except those from other relatives/friends of course) should be from Father Christmas. That's what I was told as a child, and I never questioned why my parents didn't give me anything, or why some of my friends got more/less than me, and my parents never minded FC getting all the credit.
For my own kids (2 and 4), they get a stocking from Father Christmas, and all other gifts from mummy and daddy. We may alter that slightly though as neither are really old enough to remember what happened last year so still got some flexibility. That's because the eldest is now able to write a christmas list/letter to FC so I think he may give them a stocking AND one present from their lists in future, otherwise there doesn't seem so much point in writing to him.
My mum doesn't agree with that but it makes more sense to me now as an adult.0 -
With my sons when they were younger Santa filled their stocking at the end of the bed and he also left a few smallish but too big for stocking presents under the tree...always clearly labelled from him in different handwriting! My boys are now 16 and 18 but I still vividly remember the absolute delight and total amazement when they each got a present (jigsaws) from Rudolph too....when other people asked what they got, never mind the main presents from Mum or Dad but they kept going on about what Rudolph gave them!0

FC leaves a few lumps of coal (in exchange for one or two presents) if you aren't a good boy or girl and gives those presents to good girls or boys! He never takes all of the presents though.....but just think what those lumps of coal might have been.......?????0
