  • Very much so Mrs S. I am worried about not being able to get in to finish work that needs to be done before Christmas. Not to mention how awful the panic buying will be if people think they can't get food for the big day!

I've learned I can't have enough woolly hats and gloves. I swear one day I'll find a giant nest of them under the house as I can't see where else they keep going!

    Yes!

I took two days off last time (unpaid) and was greated with 'we managed to make it in'

THEY live 3 miles down the Road... I live 30 miles down the road...!

THEY don't have an 8 year old's life in their hand while driving on the ice... I do!

THEY didn't have two Jackknife lorries blocking the moterway on the way to work! I did!

So when it snows... If I deem it dangerous, I won't be in! And I won't feel guilty about it either!!

If their attitude is to be rude, then why should I care what they think!

If they were polite and nice, then I would make more of an effort!
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

I entirely agree - I don't give a monkeys @ss whether other people want to risk their, their kids, and other road users lives by making unnecessary journeys, and tbh, unless it is critical for you go get to work, then why do it. Me.... NO WAY!!!

IF companies (where possible) operated a flexible working policy during periods of exceptionally bad weather, whereby people could come in late/leave early etc then I bet there would be less problems on the roads. Also, I bet some people would be happier to try to get to work if they knew they could wait til rush hour was over.

OH!!! And I learned that those who are really desperate to travel long distances to get to work for no apparent reason may well be up to no good... Take my ex - Feb 4th 2009 - Serious country wide snowfall, warnings not to travel, and he was desperate to get to cardiff (almost 140 miles)... Madness I told him... He was insistent... I smelled a rat. I talked him out of it... Whilst he was out with the kids I found evidence on his laptop of an affair with a co-worker... in Cardiff

After suffering a couple of bad falls in previous bad weather (ice and snow) I hibernate once it starts. OH on the other hand has been soldiering on until Sunday when he slipped on the ice and broke his hip:eek: Surgery not required the hospital say and he's home now and suddenly you find who your friends are...........people offering help of all sorts, collect shopping, arrange to get money from bank if needed, the lad we foster has really come into his own...........cooked for me the two days OH was in hospital and been really helpful..........different boy altogether.
So..........bad weather can bring out the best of some things, the worst of others.
Thank goodness we've got christmas all sorted and enough food to keep us going:) More snow on the way so they say
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

  • I learned that home knitted socks are superior to thermal socks when it comes to keeping my tootsies warm.....

It was quite a shocking discovery actually.. lol!

  • With poor balance to start with, I am feeling so thankful that I bought ice grippers mail-order the other week. They arrived in time to be used for the last lot of snow and ice. I also have an ice grip fitted to my walking stick. Those aren't infallible but they are very useful.

Shopping early -I have already bought the turkey, just in case I'm prevented from getting it next week. I've also got supplies of filtered milk. I prefer the taste to powdered milk and it seems to last for ages, even when my son forgets to put it away overnight.

I remembered to get extra loo roll and I'm hoping the forecast for tomorrow is correct so that I can fit in another shopping trip on my trike (three-wheeler bike). The trike is useful when conditions aren't too icy as it's much safer than walking. Holding on to the trike whilst I push it also means I don't fall over in slippery conditions.

May all those who have had falls have quick recoveries. Falls can shatter not just bones, but lives, please, please do go carefully everyone.
