Mennie thanks for bringing it back up to the top my partner was also forced to not work, one thing he's considered is putting one of our 4x4s on as a cab so maybe we would get some work but if we're prepared in our budget then apart from money worries we enjoyed having him home. We were able to help others more with our vehicle which is rewarding in a pay it forward way - think we're the only household the twisty neighbour doesn't twist about having 3 cars in the street as they're all 4x4s this year
Anyway I'm going to start my winter list over the summer. I've got 4 bags of rock salt & I've ordered a pair of waterproof snow boots for under £20 off eBay. I learned in a big way not to wait to buy winter things in winter! I'm going to order the boys some wellies next time something sells as they have outgrown theirs and see if I can find supersize ones for DP. Last year we were out pulling cars, Inc police cars and ambulances out in a pair of hiking boots.
A friend damaged my electric heater when borrowing it so I need to replace that, a sledge replacement is due (old one will be handy for walking to local shops and dragging bags of sand/shovel to elderly neighbours houses) I need some new tow ropes and hooks for one car as we now have a couple of cars to use. New shovels. Tyres for one of the cars. I've put a box on top of the freezer for stockpiling an extra bag of rice or pasta at every shop. Once I've got a few in I'll get dishwasher salt which I used a bit of every day to stop pipes freezing again.
I'm hoping to have another freezer fitted in the outside shed but it's the wiring that is expensiveOne day I might be more organised...........

Just read this thread from start to finish again, to see what things I might need to do/start this summer (had a delivery of coal and logs today) that I hadn't thought of before, or had forgotten about!
Thanks everyone for their ideas and comments,
Alice
