Oh yes, that buying a ton of rock salt from ebay last year, for a bargain price, showed remarkable foresight (and not just 'a stroke of luck', as my husband would have it). It has doubled in price this year.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

Ohhhh it's not just any old laxative, cascara is the nuclear bomb of laxatives!!!
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: - translated as "DONT go anywhere for at least 48 hours - or you may leave a reminder of your presence???":D
How can you tell I'm feeling much brighter now - its raining....its raining....its raining....oh...heaves huge sigh of relief as the snow and ice melts:D:D...(hate..hate..hate feeling "trapped indoors").0 -
This weather has taught me that the cupboard full of tinned tomatoes/bread flour/lentils etc and the HUGE sack of spuds was a good idea - not been able to get the car out since 17th December - finally thawed today 27th - have had to walk about 4 miles most days to get milk as only limited space in my freezer! Also, so glad I bought my Yactrax back in the Summer to stop me from slipping on the frozen lanes here in rural Devon - not been gritted once and the Yactrax have been brilliant - must have walked over 20 miles in the now wearing them.
Has taught me NOT to let OH put cat litter down on the ice - will get some salt for next time - the cat litter has made a real mess of the driveway and keeps getting trodden into the house - have had to go out and hose it all down in the rain this afternoon - not what I wanted to be doing over my Xmas break!0 -
A few people have said that about cat litter... I wonder if the person who posted originally, suggesting it, was having a practical joke with everyone :rotfl:
DW salt did a great job on my paths - I swept the snow off twice when it was falling, then threw down some salt, swept when the snow finished falling and had clear paths the whole freezing periodIts the first time I have bothered, but damn nearly killed myself (well not quite) slipping last year so literally less than 10 mins effort was well worth it
Embarrassing moment....I did it in darkness with 'just' a dressing gown and wellies on.... Dressing gown blew in the wind  and i have a feeling the roar of laughing I heard was someone opposite who saw  I didn't look up, finished the job and scuttled inside where my burning cheeks kept the whole house warm for 2 days0 -
Dishwasher salt did a great job of my path too, most impressed. I only have a tiny path, so the quantity was just right.
Frugal.... Oh la la, a little flash eh? very burlesque.0 -

LOL!!
Ahhhhh I just learned another thing.... Do NOT buy MrT tinned mushroom soup even for emergencies - its the texture of copydex and doesn't taste much better either0 -
Another vote for dishwasher salt here. I found that it seemed to lie underneath and at least the snow wasn't as deep as elsewhere and cleared more easily. I can actually see my path today! whoop whoop!:jThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.
