I have learnt to order presents early

:D lol, sitting here, no post yet again and looking at layers of snow with my laptop on my knee and browsing here and there. I have ordered slankets at £12 for my 3 adult children and their spouses and they`ll be for next year. Also a couple of mood lights as house warming presents at a 60% reduction. I am pretty pleased with myself tbh :D

Well done. Where did you find slankets at £12, thats a very good price!

Tying together a bunch of empty Coca Cola or beer tins together on a loop of string would also make quite a noise. If you only half pull the lid off you can thread the string through the convenient Ring Pull bit.

    Good idea ;)

re slankets - I saw some blue fleece ones for £9.99 in my local Morrisons petrol station the other day - not sure how widely available they are, but might help someone.
Great thread btw - thanks OP and all who have contributed :)

i know its not directly related to the weather but all this talk of security - we are NOT putting presents under the tree this year - I know several people who have have had all their presents stolen on christmas eve and with all the burglaries we've had near us recently I'm just not taking the chance

I am sad to read about this and it brought to mind some stories I heard a couple of years ago..... Having been burgled, a few families claimed for their losses on their insurance policies and managed to replace most of the lost items BUT a couple of months later, they were all burgled again! The burglers must have waited just the right amount of time for their victims to think "it won't happen again" and then struck again. Please, everybody out there, don't take your security for granted!

This is true. Some years ago my step daughter's home was burgled and they waited till everything was replaced and did it again. Even worse, it was an organised gang. She was on shift work and the thieves knew who was on shift and burgled 'everyone' in the firm while they were on duty, using a timetable of their shifts. Presumably at least one person at the firm had to fake their own burglary story, having provided the timesheet. The thieves may well be an organised gang who have a market for this stuff, probably abroad.

  • I am off to work soon and I would like to say that I hope everyone gets some sort of a break over this weekend. Once jesus has had his birthday party we can all get back to normal. Once of course after the shops have got rid of all their c**p in the sales. I had a lady the other day saying she was buying cheap xmas cards and was writing them out for next year.!!!!!! No wonder I dont feel xmassy. As I work in a shop its hard to keep a smile and a cheery quip going and this year is no exception. People are very very rude and then they complain about bad tempered cashiers!! We do our best. We are on our feet all day. We do a meaningless, boring and thankless job - not out of choice but becasuse unfortunately we have to eat at least once a day - and we still are treated like something on the bottom of a shoe. BUT, I do wish you all a happy (if poss) time and speak soon in 2011 or sooner!!

sincere regards to you all mrs s
