I have to say that I am more inclined to get a move on if I can get into work. If I am off I hibernate and think that old thought 'I can always get it tomorrow'.
So far so good with our weather - the snow has compacted a bit but still not totally iced up and the sun is shining. The only one who is a scaredy cat is our postman! But he does his best. I am waiting for one last pressie to come through the post. When that arrives I can relax a bit. If it doesnt come then I am stumped as I have ran out of money.
I think the main thing I have learnt apart from the obvious is that I must must must start to think earlier about xmas. I gather that this kind of winter is going to hit us more often in the future so I musnt be all complacent and presume the weather is going to behave. It isnt. So I have to somehow - a bit difficult if you have no money - be one step ahead.....

My neighbour's directly opposite me got burgled today while they were at work, and I'm so angry, not only because there are some evil dirty thieving scumbags about, but because I perhaps wasn't quite as vigilant as I should've been because of the bl***y weather.
I did hear a noise, and went out the front to have a look. I didn't see anything, but because it was so cold, I came back in again quickly. I know I shouldn't do the "if only" thing, but if I'd have stayed out the front another minute or two, I'd have probably seen the scum making off with the loot, then at least I could've given the police a description.
My neighbour's gutted (obviously) - and whilst I can make the right noises, I wish I could rewind time!
Wht did the thieving gits get? Probably druggies neading ready cash to feed their addiction. 'There but the grace of god go I' springs to mind here.

It has taught me to be thankful that I have food in my cupboard to eat, and central heating to keep me warm, and a good supportive ring of family and neighbours so I don't go short of things and how lucky I am to be able to say that as there are people in this country who have few if any of those things .The rough sleepers, and the lost and lonely who have no one who cares about whether they have food or shelter That is the obscenity in the 21st century.O.K. so some folk have been delayed,( I was on Sunday trying to get back to Kent from Liverpool) and I see them moaning on T.V. about non information about their holiday flights .Its tough but things could be a darn sight worse they could be homeless, sleeping out on the streets, with no food ,no money and no one to care about them. They are the ones I feel for.
I truly an a very lucky person and feel very blessed, and so what if I can't get to my DDs for Christmas, its not the end of the world I see them almost all of the time the rest of the year and although it would be disappointing its not life threatening.I count my blessings as I have so many0 -
JackieO, you brought a tear to my eye reading your post. We don't send cards at Christmas, instead we donate a little bit to charity (usually the scouts) but after reading your post I've decided that we'll give to a local homeless charity instead this time. I know it won't have an effect immediately but hopefully it'll help somebody in the cold weather - even if it only buys a blanket or sleeping bag. Thanks JackieO.0

I have learn't that hybernating a tortoise in the outhouse was a bad idea. I have tried to keep the outhouse above 0 degrees with candles, a oil candle thing and an electric radiator at night. Have now given up and moved tortose into pantry which is between 5-7 degrees.
That my neighbour thinks I lost the plot as he seems to keep giving me puzzled looks, I think he is wondering why the outhouse is lit by candles and why their is a radiator in there.
Whilst emptying out the pantry that I seriously need to stop shopping and use what in there. I know its good to prepare but I think if I got snowed in I could last at least 2 months without having to go shopping.
That getting a new boiler that actually work in November was the best idea ever.
That buying a bag of grit salt a few months back was a good idea.
That buying my Christmas presents early was a great idea but wrapping them months ago means I do not know what I am giving family and friends.0 -

Can you give an IOU for when deliveries are back to normal? Try to make it funnyto perhaps soften the blow!0 -
Your present is ordered, I promise it's so,
I made my plans then God made the snow,
As soon as it gets here you will have it forthwith,
But for now please make do with this Christmas kiss.Sometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)
It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!0
