    1. The country is insane, instead of thinking how will I get to work in bad weather if i change my job or where they live they think snow day
    2. That some of my neighbours are ignorant so and so's
    3. That if the council had sense they would grit/clear side roads so people don't park on the main road meaning they can't clear them and no buses
    4. My bubba keg is fab
    5. That even if this house is open plan we can close some rooms to keep heat in
    6. That I love my fleece blankets
    7. That people resent me' for paying the cost of running a 4x4 all year when the winter comes, if one more person says it's ok for some I will flatten them
    8. To make sure I advise friends to take the towing eye cover off incase they need dragging out as doing it wrh cold hands in a blizzard hurts
    9. That everything makes me' more careful - going elsewhere so we're not using up local supplies as we could? Social responsibility maybe
    10. To save up more next year as my partners had no work on with the snow, was prepared for to happen a bit in January, but not December
One day I might be more organised...........

I pasted "Sainsburys Skin Care Revitalising Eye cream - 59p." into the forum search, and then I got the page - posted last year.

. . . never heard of a bubba keg either!
I learn something new every time I visit this forum.
Thanks everyone - it's on my Amazon wishlist.
  • Yes, what is bubba keg? How is everyone coping now with the thaw!!!!!!! What have we all learned that can now cope with all this impending flooding? Im still reeling from the snow so how the hell I am going to cope with a flood beats me. I live on a bit of a slant so all the water is now racing past my house to a turning circle at the bottom where it is now all thick mud and muck. A van got stuck in it this morning - for heavens sake!!! Oh well, worse things can happen I suppose.

    cheers Mrs s

The tiny wee burn at the bottom of the hill in our village has grown from 2ft across to half a field , trees all half submerged in it with birds sitting there looking confused :)

Feel abit guilty because we hardly had any snow but has been pretty slippy outside, felt rather smug with myself because i have been reading these boards for the last couple of monthes i have been prepared for a hard winter and stocked up with provisions as recommended by all you wonderful folk, whilst other friends have been worried about the weather and what if's situation i have felt confident that i will be ok.

After reading this thread i think i need to get a breadmaking machine[wait till the january sales], order presents off the internet in Nov as presents ordered the last 2 weeks are slow to arrive[due to the weather], and finally wish the media would not go overboard on the weather perhaps they should start telling people to prepare for winter early or read this thread.

  • Hi all,

I learned that we need a better snow shovel
Gutter clips are flimsy things :@
I may have misjudged some of our neighbours due to their propensity to sit on their front walls drinking LCL, but they still pushed me out of the snow.
That my walking boots and fleece-lined walking trousers are worth every penny
That you can always change into work clothes in the loo
To triple or quadruple estimated travelling times in this weather

That whilst OH may laugh at the size of the storecupboard and stocks in the freezer, and my need to "audit" it occasionally to ensure we know what we have - he's not laughing now.
Our local supermarkets haven't been receiving their deliveries, so we've been relying heavily on the storecupboard. Milk freezes very well, so I always have a few pints in just in case.
That keeping the camping stove in the side shed probably wasn't the best idea, as finding it in a power cut is a bit tricky
That snow and thunder storms are awe-inspiring
That snuggling under a few duvets on the sofa talking crap to each other is a very pleasant way to pass an evening without power
That the yard-broom is an excellent way of clearing snow off the car - forget the little scrapper things!

RE: using water to defrost meat. Air is an insulator. Having the meat in contact with water allows the "cold" to be "conducted" away - in simple terms. I use this method almost every time I defrost something - I'm impatient!

    Keep safe and warm,

    PGxx
