I learned that our 18 month old Maine Coon who saw snow in Dec09/Jan10 was, like, "Meh" this time round and not interested, whereas our 10 month old kitten went absolutely mad in it - flinging it in the air, diving into it, you name it! If you've ever seen that wildlife film of tigers playing in the snow, then you have a good idea of what a Maine Coon kitten looks like, having the time of his little life! I laughed myself silly at his antics :rotfl:. The two oldtimers (we have 4 Maine Coons) who are 12 and 13 years old simply stayed in the warmest places in the house.
ROFL :rotfl: So true. For more 'cats in the snow' antics, have you tried googling 'Simons Cat - snow business' (sorry, can't do the link, very lo-tech here) Makes me laugh every time. Reminds me of my late cat (white cat, by the name of Snowy - very unimaginative).
SMILE....they will wonder what you are up to...........;)0 -
That steel toe capped wellies (bought as part of Uni course requirement) mean my feet won't be going anywhere on that ice, theyre so damn heavy!
That I need moisturiser in the bucketloads thanks to being freezing outside and boiling inside uni rooms.
That hot chocolate is my best friend.
That snow days are the best thing ever for getting work done.

I second what Mardartha says, juts when you think it cant get any colder......... It is positively baltic today.
I have learnt that table salt does actually work at melting some of the ice on my drive, even though its -15.5 at the moment!!!!
I have also learnt that not everyone will make such an effort to get to work. I travelled 70 miles to work today and when I was nearing my work place, i got a call to say that they were closed as not enough people could make it in, even though most live within 2 miles. 140 mile round trip and 5 hours I will never get back2014 = New Year, New Me0 -

to make sure that the anti-freeze/water mix is at least 33% when temps below -8° are predicted, as not having this mix has done something to the coolant temperature sensor and now we have no heating in the car.
the garage has said that lots of people have been caught out like this as normally in Uk we have 25% mix and that is usually fine.
hopefully this problem will be easily fixedMy self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.

My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -
My days, I do a bit of emergency forward planning ...but I would have no idea where to get a tanker of fresh water from!
How on earth are you managing and what caused the lack of water?
Its a burst pipe but they cannot find it due to frozen ground! we have bowsers but they are frozen, so where ever we go we take bottles to fill up its a nitemare, still not even a drip today :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:Sealed pot challenge number 003 £350 for 2015, 2016 £400 Actual£345, £400 for 2017 Actual £500:T:T £770 for 2018 £1295 for 2019:j:j spc number 22 £1,457Stopped Smoking 22/01/15:D:D::dance::dance:- 5 st 1 1/2lb :dance:0 -
Another learning curve thing - not to abandon car half a mile away and then trudge through to find your battery is knackered and you cant go ANYWHERE!
In an ideal world (which mine isnt) make sure you have someone with you (hah) with a battery charger (just in case), a shovel, a flask, a bar of chocolate (for sugar), mobile (charged), ten pounds in pocket, dog on lead, thick socks on, hat on, scarf on, duffle coat on, gloves on, list of essentials, de-icer, ipod thing, camera to take lovely pics, towel to dry dog off, brush (to sweep off fluffy snow off car), track things on shoes, a note telling people where you are and what time you will be back, a note in purse for emergency services to know who you are in case, moisturiser for wind dried skin, lip salve, headache pills, plasters (in case you fall over and cut yourself) and anything else you can think of - oh yes, a book incase you are trapped for any length of time. I have set out and didnt have any of these vital things and came smartly back home feeling a right twit and next time I find my car I shall fill the boot with the above. Minus the ten pound note as I havent got any, minus the mobile coz I have lost the charger, minus the person with you to help recharge battery as I dont know anyone like that. Minus the chocolate coz Ive eaten it. Minus the flask as I dropped it on the floor and it rattles now. Minus the dog as she doesnt like the snow. Minus the camera as I cant find the battery recharger. Minus the book as I have read them all. Minus track things on shoes as they have sold out. Minus the werewithall frankly......

I have learned to save a winter fuel fund through the summer to allievate that feeling of guilt/dread when you need to have theheating on longer.
To have a bigger store of toilet rolls than you think you might need.
Stock cupboards over filling.. I'd planned but not well enough
An abundance of short grain pudding rice and UHT/dried milk. We craved sweet stuff and this make in the slow cooker did the trick.
Thermals for all of us
Welly liners are a must
Buy a snow shovel.. I know! lol
Buy more candles and tea lights.
Overall we've managed fine but there's a lot to learn still
Hi - havent heard of wellie liners- what a good idea- where did you get yours?0 -

This bad weather has taught me that pooh sticks don't work.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
