I thought you might pop up - do you have some kind of alert when the "A" word is mentioned?

This is one person's experience of a GP but it isn't unusual, which is something you fail to understand. All the GPs I've ever had ( about a dozen in the last 30 years) have asked me whether I want to be signed off and for how long - it's what they do.
My GP was great but she never asked how long i wanted signing off for???

    Is it really that common?

She didn't sign me of for more than a month at a time because my condition needed careful monitoring...surely most serious illnesses must have that need to?

With all due respect I think it is because you have severe MH issues that they wouldn't like to go for at least a month without seeing you.

Recuperating from surgery for example, they can hand a 2 month line out and say phone if you need an appointment.

As you are on benefits they know that you will HAVE to go and see them for a line and they can chat with you as well...no chance of you getting 'lost' in the system that way.

who wants to have sex with a guy who beats you. he may not have forced her pysicaly but i doubt she was 'up for it'.

wow....that once sentence just shows how little you know about abusive relationships....if it was that easy then women wouldn't stay in relationships for years and years. An abuser doesn't just life their hands, they grind away at the person so they believe that they will get no one else and that they deserve to be with their abuser. And yes there will be 'good times' and I am sure they are times that an abused wife is 'up for it' when their abuser is being nice to them and promising they will change.

Yeah but with the surgery bit dosen't the surgeon usually write the first sick note..? I know he did with mine for a small wrist op i had. It was only when my wrist didn't mend properly and sieze up i had to then go and see the doc, who in my case said ok i'll give it two weeks and see how the physio exerises i have told you to do fair out. ( By the way this is not linked to the earlier post about being signed off for six months).

Jesus rape within abusive relationships. I think we are going a bit off-topic here, no mention of rape has been made by the op.

It was made by another poster who insinuated that if you get knocked about then you can't possible be 'up for it' so intimated the sex may not have been consensual.

Silly comment needed a bit guidance ;)

I mentioned this as the OP mentioned a violent relationship and rape can be a common occurance in some, that's all.

thats just as bad if not worse then what i said. having sex out of fear almost seems like the better opition then willing sleeping with some one who hurts you because you belive they will change. thats so sad. i dont think i could convince myself that. its seems so messed up that anyone could belive that 'prince charming' and the guy who last week knocked seven bells out of you could be the same guy. i have never been there thankfuly and i hope i never will, call me niave but i honestly didnt think of that. some kinda brain washing all most....
