The other explanation would be that postmen do a 5 day week - deliveries take place 6 days a week so you will get a different postman one day per week (I think thats how it works - or they work 6 days and take a week off every 6 weeks)

My Dad's a postman, they are officially contracted to 5 days, however most choose to work their "day off" as overtime (it was 6 contracted days untill a few years ago), my dad for one can't afford to take that day off. Those who do don't get a week off every 6 weeks, no one does. Not sure where you got that from.

My last 3 deliveries have been left outside my front door, not sure if they're RM or not. Worse, we have an electric meter cabinet next to the front door they could stash them in so they're not there for the world (including our druggie neighbours) to see!

Oh and my dad's never left a parcel outside someone's door and always hammers on it before leaving a "you were out" card. But he'd be the first to agree temps are !!!!!.

Really?, I always like to tip my regular postie for his commitment to doing a good job over the Year. Nothing much, a Christmas card with a little cash, but enough to put a cheer on his face for feeling appreciated, are you saying he has to declare such gifts?
I think its good to show your appreciation,I have a card ready for my regular postman with a small amount of cash in it and a goody bag filled with chocolates and sweets for his two young children. He always has a smile on his face and stops to say hello when i pass him in the street.I appreciate him delivering my post especially in this cold weather.Hope i don't get him into any trouble by giving him this small gift.
  • The postmen and ladies we've had delivering our post this year have got a christmas gift off us the now regular one got £10 in a christmas card and the one before him who delivered to us for 18 months got £10 in a card too. We have no problem what so ever with the postmen who deliver the letters everyday it's just the man in the van that's a total numpty. The postman was talking to us the other day and said that no one can have a day off in December or they will lose their £100 bonus which I think's a bit rubbish if there is something genuinley wrong.

it is wrong. theres no such rule
in certain circumstances such as being being off long term sick it does
however a member of staff can work their 5 day week and still get the £100 xmas bonus
however managers will often tell that little line to staff

Postie in van, was on street 10mins ago and is an idiot, just cos I was looking out the window, he got in his van, drove 6 doors down the road, then walked back to deliver to a house across from where he was parked in the first place

I've had an idiot postman, he used to mix my post up with another houses. Luckily we're both honest households and would swap his mistakes. Now he's been replaced by Thunder Fist, when he knocks on the door, my cats crap themselves. I'm awaiting the day my door falls down.

The van delivery guy is awesome though, you couldn't wish for a nicer guy.
