    Ok thanks :)

If this was a permanent job then claiming for every last thing might not always be a prudent move as you might get your reward elsewhere e.g. through promotion

However as this is a very short term job on an almost derisorily low rate of pay (especially for anyone in the south east of England just outside Greater London who is only paid the same rate as a census collector in rural wales or scotland despite much higher living costs) for the level of skill required and risk involved (in some areas) and all the hassle involved in getting recruited and Capita and the ONS will not reward you in any further way at all for your effort you should claim for absolutely everything you are entitled to under the rules. Apart from anything else you can be absolutely sure that your Coordinator will be doing precisely the same thing as they are in just the same boat as yourself.

    Hi

Can anyone tell me if I can claim hours for when I walk to meetings with my coordinator? Also do I calim my hours from when I leave my house to start work or from when I knock on my first door?

i don't think you claim for travel time to or from your area - meter starts running once you get there and start getting organised and stops once you leave.

travel time to meet your coordinator - not sure.

I think I was told it's from when you leave your house.

I don't mean expenses btw I mean hours worked.

I was told to claim mileage from when I leave my house until I get back home. That's also when I start claiming my hours worked or earlier if I've done prep prior to leaving. I've had to do this a couple of times as using their maps in a rural area is a nightmare so I'm using googlemaps/streetview to try and locate hard to find places. The route planning is actually taking a fair bit of time for me.

Does anyone know what the mileage rate is as I can't find anything on extranet and I'm really clocking up the miles driving round the countryside! ETA - have found it (40p a mile)

defo can claim for time spent route planning and paperwork, but i'm really not sure about travel time to/from your area. nor mileage to/from your area. mileage once you get there, yes. ah well, what matters is if your coord signs it off.

If you live outside your ED i don't think you can claim it but if you live within it you can.

yes, that's true. it didn't occur to me you might actually live in the ED you're doing - i thought no one was assigned EDs they lived in for confidentiality reasons.

I don't think you can do the same street you live in or close by it.

It should be 45p per mile since 6th April as the rate for the first 10,000 miles per annum was increased in this year's budget. If ONS only pays 40p then you are entitled to offset 5p per mile against your earnings on your tax return.
