Has anyone else been assaulted yet or is it just me?

I wouldn't allow that, have you had a word with your co-ordinator as at the end of the day your only doing your job.

What about the Police if it was a serious enough incident.

Surely even Capita can't demand that you do everything through your line manager in these circumstances?
  • Just been reading the last few posts , im working as a collector and nothing has been said to us about not collecting completed forms, i have helped 2 people fill them in and then posted them myself.
Can anyone tell me what they have been told about the first visits ? we were all given our first batches of addresses to visit and went on our way, by the second day i was doing 2nd visits but have now been told that we should only visit each address once then hand the sheets back in. Is this how others are working ?

I had 1.5 workloads and went round almost every address twice in my first 15 hours.

I visited over half my area twice and the rest once. The paperwork has, for me, been pretty mind boggling as theres so many things to remember.

I had 320 houses to do and have about 125 to revisit first when i get my list back on Wednesday (and they are well spread out). The vast majority of households i've visited still have their forms and have *hopefully* filled them in and will be off my list on Wednesday/Thursday or possibly Friday (although i'll be surprised if i don't have another area or 2 to do as 130 or so houses around here in one go wouldn't take much more than 20 hours max.

But, I have had a pretty ok reception. Some people thought that it was just like voting in that it was a choice to fill in (and even sending them a letter saying otherwise prob wouldn't have changed their mind - realistically Geo man, how much notice do you take with the stuff that comes through the door in to act on it immediately). But once I have mentioned what it impacts most people are willing to fill it in and seem happy to do so. I'm glad i signed up to it as its not as bad as i thought, just sooo much paperwork!

That's a lot ! I think my first batch was a total of 163 houses. I found it difficult juggling paperwork in the street so invested half an hour putting all the info on a spreadsheet and was much easier just carrying 2 sheets of paper around then transfering the info over later sitting in the garden.

yeah, excel is a godsend. i put 1hr a day down just for planning my route and sorting it all out afterwards. some streets span 2 Eds and one runs through all 3! plus the address lists are all over the place.

how do you handle the bar codes of replacement h1s etc?

Needed to walk past a group of youths to get to more houses to call at on my list. Walked into the road totally minding my own business and then they sort of bounded up to me and surrounded me, making offensive remarks then without warning one of them grabbed me in a headlock.

They ushered me into a corner and I was forced to drink alcohol or they would beat me up.

I reported it to my co-ordinator and they have had meeting(s) with the area manager as this hasn't been the only incident but the most serious (other collectors have had knife through a car tyre and another chased away from an area).

I've just pretty much been asked if I want to carry on or not. They are talking about buddying up but think perhaps even that would be no good. The area I was assaulted in is now a no-go area without police protection.

I want to carry on but I think they are brushing this under the carpet a bit. I haven't done an incident form and when I mentioned it to my co-ordinator they said I didn't need to fill one in as I hadn't reported it to the police. I didn't report it to the police as I live half a mile away from the ED in question. They have reported it to the police though but not with my personal details.

Had a couple of other threatening experiences but did not expect to be attacked. Could easily have come out of the situation much worse.

As this collecting job is my only job just now I'm still busy job hunting in the hope of finding something else to when once the collecting job finishes in a few weeks time.

I need to put down my current employer as a reference on my applications....does anyone know Capitas address??

I carry a piece of glossy paper with me and stick the bar code on there till i get home and make a note of the number next to the address on my sheet.
