Census Jobs

I found out quite a while ago I was given the position of Co-ordinator. It has been a right pain trying to book the training, they only release a few dates at a time and tell you you need to book within three days. I phoned up, and was told it was just to get people booked on to the courses!
I have my training on Wed/Thurs. I will let you know if there is anything interesting, although I suspect we'll just be shown how the forms need to be filled in and equally tedious tasks!

I applied yesterday for a Census Collector job in my town, right on the deadline :rotfl:I got a confirmation of my registration and application but I haven't heard anything as of today?
The next step in the recruitment process mentions an online test, which you get emailed a link to, but I haven't had that.. am I too late?
Also I was wondering, since I'm self-employed, I probably only have one reference, do you think that they would be mindful of this?0 -
9 Days ago got this email:
Thank you for completing your interview for the role of Census Collector.
We are still assessing interview results from all candidates. We will contact you again regarding the outcome of your application in the near future.
In the meantime, we appreciate your patience.
Kind regards
Census Recruitment Team
Started the process at the beginning of November. The slow process of government and their associates
Either that or I am not worthy!0 -
I received the online test today and completed it.. bit of a pallaver took a long time and found some of the questions a tad ambiguous.. well fingers crossed!0

Just had a text saying I'm through to the next step in the process, the telephone interview!
Booked for 10am on 25/01/2011 hopefully after the interviewer has settled down into a good mood having had their morning coffee:rotfl:0 -
they took ages to reply to me, so in the end I e-mailed them to find out what was happening and then they offered me the role (subject to paperwork etc). Well, i've sent in all the paperwork and they had to contact me about my references ( as i needed one from 'a member of the community that stands out, which is a bit of a pain as i've moved every year for the past 5 years due to uni, but have given some work references) and now are currently waiting to see whats next.
For anyone that drives though, they have a non-compliance officer role for going around chasing the surveys at £14 an hour! If only I could drive! Plus theres other roles for census survey, which are all over a number of weeks up to the end of August:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

I was offered Census Co-ordinator in early December jumped through all the hoops and did my classroom training 11th January which was.... interesting.
The food at Ramada Jarvis is terrible if they offer you the set menu DON'T touch it!
anyway the training should really be over 3 or more days it felt very rushed and because it's a 3rd party company doing the training so if you have specific questions they probably can't answer them.
Still no sign of a contract though but not surprised anyone had theirs through yet?
One thing I do know Bank Holidays are classed as normal working days for the census.
Also you should have your Census manual through the post before training, a number of people didn't have them as they'd gone astray so worth asking Capita if you've not had one.
Also DON'T forget to take the ID requested and photocopies it's to prove you are who you claim to be not optional if you've already sent it in so take it all with you anyway0 -

We were unimpressed with our sandwiches and 3 servings of tea or coffee a day!
There was an ONS representative at ours which I found very useful, able to answer questions (or phone someone who knew) and he also chased up the manuals that were missing.

I had my telephone interview a month ago (about 21st Dec I think) and received an email a couple of weeks ago stating they were still going through the applications, etc. etc.!
I wonder if it's geographical, why some people heard within a very short time?
I have made a note of the email address to chase them up (thank you!); I think no news is good news. But I want to make holiday plans for the spring and can't till I know if I'm successful. They have my mobile number and so far nobody has rung...0 -
I'm working on the census at the min, sorting it to be sent out to delivery offices - possibly the worst, most boring, census-related job ever! lol!0
