Census Jobs

Hi there,
I need to be somewhere for 1 morning during the census, so if I do get a job (census enumerator) then will I be able to do this? I really need the census job but I can't get out of this one morning.I would of course not mind making up the time later....just worried I will be allowed to. Has anyone experience of this - can they tell me?0 -
Thanks, I finally found the original description...in Northern Ireland we do 80 hours for £750 but in Scotland it is 75 hours!
Anyway.....heres the link
http://www.nicsrecruitment.gov.uk/filestore/documents/IRC75404_CIB.pdf
The Enumerators will be appointed on a fixed term contract from 19 February
2011. The appointment will last, at least, until 20 May 2011.
SALARY
Enumerators will receive a total fee payment of £750 (gross), plus appropriate
expenses, paid in monthly installments (the amount paid each month will
vary). Your first payment (fee instalment only) will be made at the end of
March and you will be required to work approximately 80 hours during the
period of employment.
So hopefully I should be able to go do my own thing for one morning.0 -
Ive been conditionally offered the supervisory role which entails 2 days training but the layout of training is awful...all I was offered was Gloucester which is 130 miles away...called to cancel my application to be told that Bournemouth would be offered shortly...would have been so much easier to email a list of training dates and locations so you know when to apply!
You think that is bad. Last year a friend of mine who lives in the North was given her training in London (a round trip of nearly 600 miles). To add insult to injury, they gave her the wrong training location in London and so by the tiume she managed to contact them and clarify the right location, then get to it, she had missed the first half days training.
The only upside is they pay full and generous expenses.

You can work whatever hours you want within the core hours as long as you do the 37 hours (although in practice as long as you get the job done (properly!), I don't think they scrutinise the hours you work too much;))

I applied for a Census Collector role over the weekend via the web site - looks like still loads of roles to apply for. Hopefully will hear about interview soon. Some good tips here so thank you!0

Just wondering how people who have applied for Census Collector are planning on travelling? Wondering if the job would be made easier or more difficult by taking a moped?
I notice a couple of people have mentioned that the hours required are more than stated. By how many? How do future employers like the look of this on a CV? Sorry lots of questions...0 -

I did the classroom training for the coordinator (the role in charge of the collectors) I haven't got a contract yet but fingers crossed...anyhow i can try to answer few questions... I don't think there is a problem if you have sthing already planned as long as you give notice so your coordinator can work round this...and you know you will have to make up your hours the rest of the week.
They give you a workload per week and you need to cover the area... you meet your coordinator regularly so they do check your hours - it's all result driven ...
As for the long hours it's the same for all the roles but it's also about managing your time... the questionnaires are posted this time and can also be done online...so you only visit people who forgot/don't understand/wrong addresses etc etc... Let hope many people will return and it will be easier work for collectors and others.;)
good luck to everybody applying...A friend is a present which you give yourself (R.Stevenson)
