Am I the only one that is finding this job diffficult? I've always worked with the public, I used to be a nurse so I am well used to dealing with difficult situations and talking to people, but most people who I am dealing are surprised and peeved to be asked pretty much the same questions (although not nearly as many) as they have just answered and when finding that 'this survey is matched with the census results and allows the ONS to estimate the number of people not counted yet' with various ways of saying this including the wording in the elearning, just seems to prompt people to assure me that they didn't miss anyone off and so they don't need to do this survey. Is anyone else having problems or is it only me? I must admit I'm about to give this up.

I agree it is tricky to get the wording right. It's primarily about finding out how accurate the main census was, so it's as important to collect information from people who did fill it in accurately as it is from people who inadvertantly missed someone. It may be that your area has been 100% accurate - that's just as useful as finding a 90% accuracy. The missing people themselves aren't really that important, the survey only covers 1% of the households, what is important is that accuracy figure.
    Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply, I understand what it's about, but getting the point over to someone in a few minutes on the doorstep who is already a bit against it, due to the fact that they have already given this information, is not a simple task. I have tried directing them to the website (as we have been told to do) but they look at me as if to say 'why should I?' I must admit if someone knocked on my door to complete this interview and I didn't know what I do know about it, I would not complete it either! Anyway it's team meeting morning today (no coffee provided) so we'll see what happens there. I'm still waiting for a new property listing book to complete the postcode listings so at least I'll get that and I won't be juggling with loose bits of paper!

I've tried to avoid saying that it's to check what they put down was right. I've been saying it's to make sure we haven't missed anyone as we know the forms are confusing and some people don't know who to include or who not to include. If someone refuses saying that their form is correct I've put that down in the PLB as that should still help the census people. It's the ones who refused the census and the interview that we have no ideas about.

On a side note it does seem that the info asked in the interview is the important information that ONS want, and I think the public would have been a lot happier to complete the census if it was just these questions.
