So simply advertise in conjunction with certain sellers. Most 'traders' would happily allow their products to be shown in the advert, on the condition that they would supply a large number of them.

    This is business studies 101.

which traders? the ones already on ebay and with their own sites?
you state business 101, yet are talking about uprooting ebays massive foothold in the UK and global market as if it was a sure thing because you have the plan nobody else has thought of.

I mean as in anyone selling on eBid or which ever site was doing the advertising to be perfectly honest. If ebid stepped up it's public profile, Ebay would begin to suffer in the UK or at least, competition would be a lot higher and therefore lower costs to the seller.

I'm not saying that Ebay would be overturned/uprooted/sent into administration, but I am saying that with the right public image, the emotional appeal and the potential for bigger savings would make it harder for Ebay to charge the current sales prices...or does no one feel this recession.

or maybe I'm completely wrong. Maybe ebid isn't number 2 in the uk, maybe it's secretly gone into administration and that the reason the sellers in the ebay related forums are complaining so much is because they have it so easy. *shrug*

    According to some reports...they are.

pheebay has a report that shows how a recent decline in Ebay sellers has resulted in a rise of Ebid sellers due to a campaign.

Some ebid threads specifically talk about Ex Ebay Sellers whom have switched.

Some mse threads specifically talk about Ebid being better than Ebay and that sellers are switching.

Some threads on forums related to Ebay also talk about disgruntled sellers whom are suggesting that they switch to either Ebid or CQout for better profit margins.

I have recently found a respected Academic Journal Article suggesting that a slow down in Ebay profits is related to a boost in not the profits, but the numbers of members on Ebid.

I would post the links if I were but allowed.

Buyer will use my site because the items on sale will be cheaper. You are basing this your own experience using your own account. If i am not charging the seller any fees at all then this means the seller can list the item for less. If the item is less on my site (inc fee) than it is elsewhere then i am sure buyers wont mind.

    as well.:D

You ar enot listening to what I say. I pay NO fees on ebid I List cheaper there than I do on ebay and I get NO sales. If I can't sell on ebid how can I sell on your site where buyers are having to pay for the privelege?
But then what has E-bid been doing with all of the income generated??
    Where are the adverts???
What promotion have they done in order to get noticed.

They have very little money as they don't charge fees, and that's exactly the position you will be in.
Ebid is also making a big splash, it's the biggest in the UK.

I just don't understand why you think Ebid isn't successful and it obviously doesn't want to get more buyers else it would have run a tv campaign already. (£5000 to run an add for six weeks, prime time, on ITV last time I checked).

It isn't successful as there are no sales, look at completed listings, page after page of unsolds. We had a very serious campaign on here for a while with some very big sellers on ebid, most quietly gave up and according to the ebid forums many went back to ebay.

After 10 years you would think they would have some sort of presence online.

I've also not seen a positive thread on MSE about ebid for months, possibly years. The main thread is mainly me now as I think I'm the last surviving ebid seller who is daft enough to keep trying.

Do not equate listings with sales. I have 4 shops on ebid, I have numerous things listed so I input to their numbers, yet nothing sells. I have around an 85% sell through rate of the same goods on ebay.

  • I hadn't equated listings with sales. If you do some google searching you will find that ebid is making a profit and it one of the major players in the UK. Whether you sold items or not, the facts are the facts.

The Academic Article in question was quite thorough I just gave a brief summary of what I read instead of giving you the whole abstract.
  • i just posted another comparison for someone.

Lets say you want to sell a car or a motorbike.
Adverts in the press are £10- £20 for a decent one for 2 weeks.

lets says the item is £5000
On my place it would cost you NOTHING is sales fees. The buyer gets charged £5.
You could knock this off for them. And they can pay you cash on collection.

Now heres how it goes on Ebay.

    Profit/Loss
    Final Value £ 5 000.00
    Total eBay/PayPal Fees £ 212.11
    Item Cost £ 0.00
    True S&H Cost £ 0.00
    Total Expenses £ 212.11
    Total Selling Price £ 5 000.00
    Profit/Loss £ 4 787.89

Now thats a saving. Even it you exclude the paypal fees you still would save £65 even if you knocked the £5 off for the buyer.

Give it time an Ebay will get more commision out of other areas. They dont care about the sellers. They care about the profits.
    Give it time..

I want about 500 people on a list before i go for a launch. These 500 will list as many items as possible on the site prior to the launch. And businesses on ebay can Link to the store on my site. :D
