What I see here is the opportunity to save money. It costs nothing to list an item, or re-list, true I might have to bump my prices up a bit to negate the sur-charge, but the fact is, it is far less than the charges put forward by 'Feebay'.
So we've attracted sellers. Now you're telling me, a market place in a rich business district, selling many different items at a lower cost than the highstreet stores because of lower overheads, won't attract buyers?
That just doesn't make sense. Buyers will always look for the better deal. That is what this site, moneysavingexpert encourages and promotes vastly.
The only problem with this theory is that it requires a number of sellers to already be listing items. But isn't that what buyers expect?
so why hasnt ebid succeeded?0 -
According to Ciao,
- Less Product Variety
- High Security Subscription
- PPPay integrated into the system.
Also as far as I'm aware, while it might not be as popular or as big as Ebay, it hasn't failed. In fact, it's generating a profit. According to Suite101 it is the 9th most popular auction site. According to online-auction-sites.toptenreviews. it's infact 2nd to Ebay. Not to mention it's the best in the UK.
Where does this perception come from that if it's not the biggest and most profitable that it isn't successful?0 -

because hardly anyone knows about ebid.
feel free to ask around work on Monday who has heard of ebay.
then ask the same folks if they know ebid.
i less people know about it then it generates less sales and lower prices.
if you are trying to rival ebay then you need to be big and successful
ebid has been around for years now0 -

But then what has E-bid been doing with all of the income generated??
Where are the adverts???
What promotion have they done in order to get noticed.0 -
Ebid is also making a big splash, it's the biggest in the UK.
I just don't understand why you think Ebid isn't successful and it obviously doesn't want to get more buyers else it would have run a tv campaign already. (£5000 to run an add for six weeks, prime time, on ITV last time I checked).0 -

yes you are about right on that figure. You can get if for less.. £2500 in certain time slots.;)
Its what i would aim to do. Adverts in major press, and then Tv adverts later on maybe 1-2 a year then a refresher of smaller type adverts. You will NOT make it just by the internet alone..0 -

so given these are random(yes its all from looking for kiddie xmas stuff)
why would i keep going back to ebid?0 -
That was already mentioned as a disadvantage and I'm not promoting ebid, I'm simply stating it is not by any means except that it is not 'the best' a failure. It's a catch 22, if you can't attract the sellers then you won't attract the buyers and it seems that sellers are reluctant to put in the hard work required and would much rather be handed everything on a platter.
Where do advertising businesses make their money again?0 -
how many 6 week TV runs do you think it would take Ebid to get up to the level they actually had the items buyers need?
do a 6 week TV run and buyers find the stuff they want isnt there........0 -
So simply advertise in conjunction with certain sellers. Most 'traders' would happily allow their products to be shown in the advert, on the condition that they would supply a large number of them or at the very least ask sellers to be able to provide thus order more if they run out. Win win.
