PN, the problem with the "always moaning in pain" thing is that you accept it, he accepts it and gradually it gets worse. So you move from the "slight discomfort" to "sometimes painful" to "constantly in pain" without realising that there has been some progression (or should that be regression). Before you know it, you've moved from aches and pains that people live with to a situation which is becoming intolerable.

The time to seek help is when they are finding it difficult to cope , rather than when they can't cope. Otherwise you get to a situation where you have no option but to step in or leave them flounder; and living with your relatives gives you little option but to step in.

Do you need a GP referral to get something like macmillan nurses?

You said he's moaning in pain, for goodness sake! Of course that's what the ambulance service is for - unless you can take him in your car. Will he come with you?

    For goodness sake, M A K E A F U S S !!!

I certainly would if a member of my family were in pain like this. I wouldn't hesitate for one second.
Well, he's stopped now. It was pain because of being bunged up.

All evacuated and sorted now. No moaning.

He can walk.... must be OK.

    :)

To be honest, I don't know. And I don't even know what the question means.

The thing is, I've actually no idea. I have asked, a number of times, "have you asked how long....?" But I haven't had a straight answer, or any answer. So I don't know if I am not being told, or if he's not actually asking.

    Regardless, get an application in.

    Jelly orders!:naughty:

Carers allowance is kinda means tested. Overall, it may be better for your mum to claim it - even though she won't get it (long story) it'll mean she'll get other stuff!

Like I say, PM me if you feel you want to/need to/would like to.:)

LOL/mum. Until this recent event, she was the one being looked after as she can't cook... and other important stuff.

Mind you, her not cooking is probably a blessing ... she's actually very bad at it :)

Also, are there not age limits? She's nearly 90.

    ??

Macmillan nurses will help provide care in your own home;they will visit attend to personal care issues, advise on benefit support, pain relief etc They will also be someone that you and he can talk to and enable you to ask questions.

I just wondered if you can phone them yourself or whether they only operate where your GP has referred the patient to them.

I've no idea. I googled it and, typical of so many websites, that doesn't say anything either.

You see, the thing is, I don't know 'where we're at'. No idea "how long", or what the system/process is. All I know is there are these tablets and some hospital visits - and some strange new bags of meds in what used to be the 'injecting corner/don't touch that it's his stuff" corner.

Macmillan http://www.macmillan.org.uk/Home.aspx is a cancer charity, that provides specialist medical help, as well as financial advice to access any money you are entitled to for the care of your parents. Their phone number is 0808 808 00 00

it's also worth calling your local hospice since many offer excellent out patient care, specializing in pain relief.

No upper age limit. AA is for anyone over 65 who has care needs.

From your posts, Mum & Dad should both be on it. f I were there, I'd be insisting on filling in the forms with a wee £5 wager that both will qualify.

*disclaimer - I don't gamble. However that shows you how certain that I am as to them both qualifying.
