Pea's are nice. Hard to explain when to pick them in text, but have a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2ydBf6uhrU&feature=related . I mainly do it by sight... you can just see when they are ready.
Thanks for the vid tomterm. Never grown peas before, so I am well looking forward to these!About time
Our biggest toms are about 2 inches diameter
....and that's without greenhouse, jelly
When I put your co-ordinates into google maps it suggests france. If that is true, you're cheating!
I got to my garden late this year. Not too sure why really, but spent the afternoon yesterday building a shed & repotting all my toms. They're all in a greenhouse (not a proper one, a plastic tent style one IYSWIM. I continue to live in fear of the blight I experienced last year...:(John_Pierpoint wrote: »Presumably not "Mange tout"?
I normally leave then until swollen enough for the bottom end to "pop" when squeezed and it is easy to run a finger inside and strip out the whole pod. If they taste good eaten raw they are just right.
(Unless you are growing for drying or "marrowfat" 'cos you are into fish and chips and mushy peas)
Mmmmmm! I am, with gravy!
An interesting idea - if the crop is sufficient. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
PN, you've had some excellent advice here and I agree that Dad will probably want to stay at home as long as possible, but it is good to have hospice contact lined up too. You may never need it, but....
As regards feeling that you're not allowed to interfere or make decisions, I understand all that, but there comes a point when a 'child' becomes the responsible adult. Been there & done it. You have at least one brother or sister too. What are they doing/thinking? Can they give some back-up?
Excellent posting here sir!:TIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

No bloomin courgettes yet though, and most of my chard have bolted. Fortunately, the hens don't care, so nothing's wasted.:)0

Oh well, if we're giving away our location to stalkers and mad axemen, I'm nearly where the pink blob is......:D
but not quite!:p0 -
And, I'm going to give stalkers a helping hand by saying that I'm in North London. Am I taking too much of a risk here?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Your profile says "Location 51.37N; -0.43W". Surely, -.43W means a fraction of a degree East of the meridian? That map shows you as West of the meridian.Longitude is given as an angular measurement ranging from 0° at the Prime Meridian to +180° eastward and −180° westward. For calculations, the West/East suffix is replaced by a negative sign in the western hemisphere.
So yes, I'm 0.43 West of the Greenwich Merdian, thus -0.43 is correct, no?0
