My parents are stressed at the moment because they have a pidgeon stuck in their chimney. Have tried all internet remedies (shining torch, putting food down etc) to no avail. Any other ideas that don't involve lighting fires or shooting guns?
Start a smoke .... use damp wood and paper to just create a lot of smoke, but not really fire.

Doozer's offline at the moment. Why am I having visions of her driving to Asda in her jammies?

Re pigeon... you could try blasting it out by playing loud/cr4p music up the chimney ... warn any neighbours first if you're adjoined, but you're probably posh and detached :P

I'm banished to the bedroom at the moment with my laptop so mine can wrap my presents in the boxes that I bought because he isn't proficient with wrapping paper:D, ever other present, card etc gets done by me. Thankfully I'm not cooking though, I'm carp at that.

I guess one thing you can do is call the RSPCA and ask for advice. They may even come and remove it for you ;)

The only thing that's ever been detatched about me is my mind! I only lived in a detatched house in Australia, and that was a slum.

Thanks tomterm, we tried the locals but they've all gone for Christmas (which seems fair enough) and this has only happened this evening. My parents have dismantled fire and put food in grate with some water, I don't think they can do much more. I just fear them waking up tomorrow morning to a loose bird and a living room covered in pidgeon poop.

Oh... I didn't see your post, before I posted... I meant it was silly for all the petrol stations to shut so long.

No worries, I thought that might be the case. But it still stupid. I'm just being a tightwad.
