Aside from toiletries, change of underwear, phone & charger, camera & charger, book & wallet, do I really need much else for a city break where I'm not exactly going to do much other than chill, wander about and stuff?
(have a feeling I've forgotten some really obvious stuff & am going to end up allwhen I read this thread in the morning...)
My short list:
Fancy shoes with heels I want to wear. Flats I end up wearing. x number of days plus one pair comfy shoes. Evening dress, cardicans. Jeans. twicce the number of tops over days going. a day dress. and cardi. nuetral lipstick, blusher and eye pallette, evening blusher, lippy and eyepallate. Tube of frizzease. other hair stying product. Conditioner. pashmina/silk scarfy thing. BOOKS. note pad paper. bag big enough to fill ith stuff to check in if I see bargains. pants times number of days, tights, plus two spare pairs for laddering, that I'll almost certainly not wear. A pouch with jewellery to wear in the evening (wear all my day stuff). foreign currency wallet/uk wallet. funny passport cover thing that you usually have to remove anyway. Phone for appropriate foreign sim. fancy underwear for feeling fancy in the hotel room..
thats probably the bare bones of an overnight stay.0 -
Decreasing the temperature of the lake by 1°C should therefore give a maximum energy of 8,400,000,000 J = 2333 kWh (call it 2000 kWh because we're only estimating and don't know things accurately).
A quick Google of efficiencies of these things suggests that by paying for 400 kWh of electricity, lir would be able to use her lake to get this 2000 kWh of heat energy into her heating/hot water system. However, I haven't found any information about how this ratio changes as the temperature of the external water source changes, and I haven't time to go looking for it.
That's a bit worrying. I just assumed that the lake would have more thermal capacity than that. We used an embarrassingly large amount of gas last winter, and I'm going to find and stop up some more of the draughts to try to reduce that, but we're talking tens of 1,000s of kWh - enough most probably to freeze that lake right through. LIR is surely going to need to drop that lake temperature at least 10C during the winter? (I mean that she'll surely need at least 20,000 kWh.) Maybe she'll freeze it solid, although that will take a lot more energy extraction because of latent heat. But the point is that once it's freezing even locally round the collector, the collector will effectively be insulated by the ice. Maybe that photo of the lake was very misleading. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I had a cup of tea out of a polystyrene cup I think. I would rate the tea at 3/10. I got a return on my investment of about 4/10. Wasn't worth it in the end.

Still I'm in a sad way quite excited about going on eurostar for the first time.
I can see that. I love going on trains, as I'm always the driver, & never get to look at the scenery. A month or 2 ago I had to get a train to/from manchester for a seminar, and I loved every minute of the journeys, being pressed up against the window looking at the views, countryside, towns, cities, livestock. Sincerely helped by the sounds from my mp3 player too. It is absolutely beautiful this country. Winds me up when people argue otherwise...:(
We don't have work laptops!:rotfl: Can't afford them mate! Indeed, we're not supposed to print anything off over 10 pages! Costs too much.
My boss rings people up when they're on holiday if he needs something. Doesn't even have to be majorly important either. He'll be in for a shock if he rings me - I have checked the definition of holiday in the dictionary...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
so...can someone translate, is putting the ''thingy'' in Lake Cake a goer or should we bury the thingy instead?0

Just watched Black swan.
I have no idea whether I liked it or not, which is an odd feeling at the end of the film. You come across a lot of people like that though in performing arts.0 -

Been invited their LIR?
Not necessarily asking for me. But if I were to drag my self up there on a train during the day I'd want to have an experience.0 -

Black Swan is a really good film imo. I really like Darren Aranofsky. His first film (Pi) was fantastic. His re-working of Requiem for a Dream is, imo probably his best acheivemnt to date. A phenomenal powerhouse of a movie that really looks at the human relationship with addiction. If anyone ever tells you that this film is about drugs, you can pretty much ignore everything else they ever say in their lives, as they are obviously missing several brain cells.
I haven't seen the wrestler yet. The fountain was overblown, and rushed. I like the idea, but it was a pet project that didn't translate to the big screen.
I really enjoyed Black Swan. There are some stellar performances in it. Natalie Portman is excellent, as is the character she plays. Mila Kunis also is phenomenal, & of course the 2 characters contrast brilliantly, in the same way as the white & black swans in the ballet.
I loved it. Went to the cinema for it, & it was great on the big screen. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
