People recruit people "just like them" .... I'm sure every library is full of them
Why are they closing libraries? Why don't people go to libraries? Because the Jobsworths make you feel like !!!!!! and you're in their way and a right nuisance... and they've never got what you want anyway.0 -

My experience of the crime that now turns over more than any other:

What you're actually doing is removing the very fine top layer of paint. The top layer gets discoloured by the sun and contains dirt... and T cut lifts off a very fine layer. So it all looks lovely again.
Then I think the paint fairies spit in the scratches, so not sure how/why (apart from that reason) it does seem to remove scratches.... which of course it can't really.
Yes "T Cut" comes in different colours these days.
My car (Ford) is a dark blue BUT the undercoat/primer is off white, which makes scratches a real annoyance. Especially when the school leaver in Tescos car park dragged his train of empty trolleys round one of its corners.Friend has ailing mother who (a) lives abroad and (b) has always been very difficult.
They get a call from a neighbour to say she has collapsed and in hospital, so they jump on a plane and visit. Siblings aren't interested, as I say she has always been difficult. They get to the hospital to find that the hospital doesn't want her as she is too ill to treat; the doctor threatens my friend saying that she should have had treatment months ago and they have been neglectful in leaving her get in this condition.!
Firstly they didn't know she was ill, secondly she reckons hospitals kill you and wouldn't have gone to the doctor even if she knew she was ill, thirdly she has outlived 3 husbands and has moaned for years that she is waiting to die. Fourthly, my friend is the one to get hassled, (the doctor even said she should be arrested for neglect!) when the siblings won't go near!
Now they are stuck out there, not really knowing if they should leave and come home or stay. Can't ask too many questions or they get accused of being vultures!
Something similar happens in the UK, when you get greeted by the "Is she self funding?" question.
(This translates into "Is her net worth greater than about 20K")0 -

except in Viva's case, because she, like Mary Poppins, is practically perfect
OK, this is a very random question BUT, has anyone been for a cup of tea or anything like that at the House of Lords? Just wondering how they'd rate the experience.0 -
PasturesNew wrote: »That is my local library. Next nearest is about 20 miles away. That's THE library.
I took the books in to renew them, they took them off me as I didn't have my card. She's bundled them up and written my name on them and put them on the reserved shelf .... when I have my card, I can go back and claim them again.
It's a bit like a kid having your toy confiscated at school.... it's got your name on, but you're made to feel very small and naughty ... and you have to go and collect item/s at a later stage.
I've done that and I've told the library assistant that I will keep the books and let them become overdue. She has then suggested that if I have some proof of who I am, like a debit card, I can get them renewed at the enquiries desk without my card.
In Herts the libraries now have machines that can handle issues and renewals and fines etc. You can also renew over the phone when the "computer says no". I think my dad thinks it's "something I must have done"
I've grown up always being 'blamed' for things - with any assumptions being made that it must be me. He'd take the word of a total stranger, passing in the street, over what I say. A random l00ny in the street could tell him I'm a high class hooker and he'd believe it and I'd be in trouble when I got home. Never have been believed, always blamed.
I've got a bank and go online.
Lots of online fraud.
2+2= must be something I've done.
Just been reading your thread over there. They are so lucky you are living with them ATM and available to help. Feel quite cross that you are being blamed.
Hope you get it sorted out to everyone's satisfaction (well, apart from the fraudsters' of course).Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Today DD's class were taken to a Science Festival. She came home with a few stickers on her uniform jumper, a cube made from eight plasticine "atoms" joined together with straws, a commemorative pompom thing, and one of those rubbery wristbands that are so prevalent these days. So far so good. The wristband is advertising https://www.microbiologyonline.org.uk, so of course she wanted to go on it. She opened up the site, clicked "students" and found something appropriate and amusing called "microbe passports". However, I couldn't help noticing what was right next to the microbe passports on the "students" page. Should they really be sending home a year 2 class (ie 6 & 7 year olds) with a wristband directing them to that kind of content? Somebody hasn't thought this through properly. It would be quite easy to fix - get rid of "students" and replace it with "primary schools" and "secondary schools" and "university students" or somethiing. Should I try to say something to anyone, and if so, to whom?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? As for having a cup of tea there, the thought wouldn't ever, ever occur to me as being something remotely possible to do.0 -
